Daily Dynasty Update – August 8th

Almost ready for the first full week of pre-season. Let’s see what we got:

The plan for Buffalo running back CJ Spiller is 30 touches a game. Giddy up. Spiller will be a top five running back in dynasty leagues for years to come.
Mark Ingram should be getting more carries in New Orleans this year and in the future. Finally.
New Atlanta running back Steven Jackson has been lining up all over the field. While definitely older, Jackson is worth a look as a value pick who will contribute heavily this year. It could be worth to flip him later in the year.
Rookie receiver Chris Harper has been doing well in Seattle camp. He’s currently behind free agent-to-be Golden Tate on the depth chart so he could be worth a stash on your taxi squad.
Indy tight end Coby Fleener is due to make a jump this year. Maybe he can get some separation from fellow second year tight end Dwayne Allen in the passing game.
San Diego rookie receiver Keenan Allen is getting more reps in the wake of the Danario Alexander injury. Now’s the time to draft Allen as at least a taxi squad stash.
New England rookie receiver Kenbrell Thompkins has really shown promise in camp this year. While none of the New England receivers look to stand out, it doesn’t hurt to draft one of the three rookies in Thompkins, Josh Boyce, and Aaron Dobson.

Daily Dynasty Update – August 7th

Let’s get it on.

Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman are still splitting carries with the first team in Denver. I still don’t buy the Montee Ball hype – he’s in a RBBC and his coach is notorious for using multiple backs.
Mark Ingram is looking good in New Orleans. He’s done nothing in his career to unseat Pierre Thomas but maybe this is the year.
Another breakout candidate is Michael Floyd from Arizona. He is officially the #2 receiver in the desert. With an upgrade at quarterback, the chances will be there.
Mychal Kendricks is poised to be a big part of the defense in Philadelphia this season. The second-year linebacker should be going at the quarterback more which is good for sacks. Kendricks is currently 18th in dynasty linebacker ranks.
A.J. Jenkins (finally) had a good day in camp for San Francisco. There isn’t much competition at receiver in San Francisco so the door is open.
Justin Blackmon is still hurt and probably won’t play on Friday for Jacksonville. So much talent, so little production.
Bryce Brown may fumble the #2 spot behind LeSean McCoy in Philadelphia. He dropped three passes today and the knock is his hesitancy to run between the tackles.

Daily Dynasty Update – August 6th

Here’s what already happened so take note!

Eric Berry could lead the Chiefs in interceptions AND sacks (!). Berry may be undervalued at #6 in dynasty ranks.
Danny Amendola has become dependable (sound familiar?). Amendola appears to be vastly underrated at #32 and could be a WR1 in PPR leagues.
DeAndre Hopkins keeps getting better. It wouldn’t be a stretch to make him the first receiver off the dynasty fantasy boards.
Sean Weatherspoon dislocated his finger but is expected to be fine. Injuries to the fingers aren’t nearly as big a problem for linebackers. Weatherspoon is a still a go to be a LB2 in dynasty leagues for many years to come.
With the injury to Jeremy Maclin and the absence of Riley Cooper, somebody had to step up in Philly. It appears that person might be Russell Shepard. He’s turned in good practices and made the #2 spot his to lose.
Julius Thomas has been playing with the first team as the ‘receiving’ tight end in Denver. While this year it may be tough to get looks after Wes Welker, Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas. Julius is #39 in current dynasty ranks but could improve upon that this year.
Ryan Williams injury in Arizona is making his roster spot dicey. As we looked at the rookie runners, Arizona has two potential replacements for Rashard Mendenhall’s backup.
Rookie running back Chris Thompson continues to recover from a knee injury. Thompson is an intriguing pick but ideally as a taxi squad player on a team with Alfred Morris.
Tyler Wilson is now 4th on the Raiders depth chart (that includes Terrell Pryor and now Matt McGloin). It’s time to move on from any thoughts of Wilson being a dynasty asset.

Daily Dynasty Update – August 5th

Finally, football is back.

From last night’s game, Lamar Miller looked solid (besides the botched hand off) with two runs of 10 and 11 yards. Miller is rated 13th in the latest running back ranks.
Detroit running back Reggie Bush has been everything he was supposed to be – catching balls and getting top-line speed very quickly. Reggie is a solid RB2 at his current 20th ranking. But if you built a strong dynasty team around him, he could be a low-end RB1 in PPR leagues.
Eddie Lacy looked good in Green Bay’s scrimmage. He’s set up for a lot of goal-line work as a RB2 in their high powered offense. Meanwhile, Johnathan Franklin did not impress so temper your expectations.
Chicago’s Alshon Jeffery has firmly established himself as the #2 in Chicago. If Cutler gets up to 600 pass attempts, he’ll need to throw to someone else besides Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte. Plus, Brandon Marshall isn’t getting any younger at 29.
Tennessee rookie receiver Justin Hunter had two drops in practice. Hunter is still only a taxi-squad level prospect until he can be reliable.
Cincy rookie tight end Tyler Eifert made the most of AJ Green sitting out of practice. Eifert needs to be the first rookie tight end off your board and could be a top 10 pick in dynasty leagues.
On the flip side, Dallas rookie tight end Gavin Escobar has done nothing to stand out. Escobar was entering a good situation with Dallas’ pass-happy offense and learning from one of the best tight ends in history. Use caution.
Jacksonville rookie receiver Ace Sanders caught a couple of first downs in practice. We looked at Sanders in-dept here.

Daily Dynasty Update – August 4th

And a happy Sunday to you.

The Giants are expected to split carries between Andre Brown and David Wilson. That #12 ranking for Wilson might be a tad high.
Norv Turner sees Cleveland running back Trent Richardson with 300 carries and 60 catches. Giddy. Up.
San Diego looks to use running back Danny Woodhead on passing situations. Ryan Mathews now seems appropriately ranked at #24.
St. Louis tight end Jared Cook has been connecting with Sam Bradford. Cook may realize his full potential in St. Louis. His #8 ranking could seem low.
Buffalo receiver Stevie Johnson could miss most of the pre-season with a hammy injury. It’s disappointing as Johnson was running in the slot in the hopes of being the Buffalo Wes Welker.
Patriots running back Shane Vereen has been lining up all over the place and appears to have gained the trust of Tom Brady. Vereen is currently 32nd in dynasty ranks and makes for a great RB3.
Arizona running back Rashard Mendenhall is nursing knee tendonitis. With Ryan Williams also hurt, the running back situation in the desert could get real ugly.
Eric Reid should be the starter at safety for San Francisco heading into the season. Reid is already the 37th ranked DB in dynasty ranks.

Daily Dynasty Football Update – August 2nd

It’s Friday, Friday, Gotta Get Down on Friday…

Fred Davis seems to have recovered from his ankle injury. With the dearth of quality tight ends, Davis isn’t a bad option as a high-end TE2. Just 27 and RG3 as his quarterback, the potential is there in dynasty leagues.
Stevie Johnson is working out of the slot in Buffalo. The goal is to develop Johnson into the Wes Welker role, where Welker averaged 100 catches a year. If E.J. Manual can develop, Johnson would make an intriguing dynasty receiver going forward and worth more than his current 36th ranking in dynasty charts.
Jermichael Finley is having a great camp and, apparently, justifying his TE1 status. Still just 26 and in one of the best offenses in the NFL, Finley is in a great position. He just needs to not be so charitable.
Arian Foster should be coming back Sunday. Foster is no stranger to injury. At 27, it’s fair to question how much longer Foster has to be an elite running back option. I might avoid Foster until at least the last half of the first round in dynasty drafts. I also might consider trading him sometime this season or after.
Mike Wallace has been dealing with a groin injury. The hope is he comes back for Sunday’s game and can keep working with Ryan Tannehill. Wallace is a still WR2 but has potential for a WR1 if Tannehill can make the leap.
Fresh off our look at rookie running backs, Denard Robinson’s snaps have decreased to ‘free up his mind.’ Don’t draft Robinson until his play improves.
Dion Sims is officially the #2 tight end in Miami and has looked good. After looking at his chances, we like Sims for a taxi squad role on your dynasty team in his rookie year.
The Bengals confirmed what we hoped for Tyler Eifert – he will line up wide. He’s been getting high praise and deserves to be the first rookie tight end of your dynasty board.
Golden Tate has looked good in camp. With Percy Harvin out for a while, Tate is someone to keep in mind. At just 24, he’s a great mid-to-late round dynasty pick and, at the moment, worth more than his 66th ranking.

Daily Dynasty Football Update – August 1st

Vernon Davis has taken snaps in the slot. This bodes well for everyone involved and firmly puts in Davis among the top five tight ends in dynasty rankings.
Pittsburgh is instituting a zone-blocking scheme in the run game which should pump up Le’Veon Bell’s numbers. Alfred Morris racked up 1,600 yards in the same scheme last year. Bell’s current 23rd dynasty ranking seems low and should shoot up soon. Grab him if you can.
Jamaal Charles is getting more looks in the passing game. As the story notes, under Andy Reid, his best running back, Brian Westbrook, had 50 catches for five straight years. Hopefully, Charles can hold off Father Time for a few years as he’s already at 27.
Julio Jones is getting better? Yikes.
E.J. Manual is looking good in camp as well. He should be the first rookie quarterback taken off your dynasty board due to the weapons, the opportunity, and the skill.
DeAndre Hopkins is projected to get 52-60 catches his rookie season. That’s a great floor to have as a dynasty prospect in his rookie year. Hopkins should be the second rookie receiver on your dynasty board.
The hope is St. Louis is Jared Cook finally becomes the receiving tight end stud he was supposed to be in Tennessee. In a tight end starved situation as dynasty fantasy football, Cook is a top-10 pic k.
Colin McCarthy is practicing with the first unit again. McCarthy was supposed to be a dynasty linebacker stud last year but injuries cut that short. He currently sits at #24, due to those injuries, in our dynasty rankings with room for potential.
Patrick Willis will have an x-ray on his hand today. Willis has had similar injuries without missing any meaningful time but it gets amplified due to his age (28). Willis is currently at 5 in our dynasty rankings.
Michael Vick has taken the lead in Eagles camp with Nick Foles looking average. This will put a dent in Foles dynasty value and maybe increase Barkley’s.
Cordarrelle Patterson has yet to practice with the first team in Minnesota. With one year of big-time college football under his belt, that’s to be expected. Patterson still has a lot of upside but don’t expect a lot, if anything, in year one.

That seems like a lot of ground covered. We’ll see what today has in store.

Daily Dynasty Football Update – July 31st

It’s the last day of the month. Let’s see what we got:

Danny Amendola has been a bright spot in Patriots camp so far. They predict he should be able to do what Wes Welker did and catch 100 balls. In PPR dynasty leagues, Amendola is high on the list.
Jason Witten is catching balls in the red zone during camp. Hopefully Witten can capitalize on that as he’s never had more than 9 touchdowns in a season. Witten is still solidly at #4 in dynasty rankings.
The running back picture in Denver is still not clear. Until there is some clarity, don’t treat any back, Montee Ball especially, as a stud.
Pierre Garcon is making the catches at camp. With RG3 as his quarterback, Garcon may be underrated with his current 26th dynasty ranking.
Brock Osweiler improved greatly from last years camp to this years. As the primary backup to 37-year old Peyton Manning, Osweiler is a fantastic taxi squad prospect whether you have Manning or not.
Jonathan Franklin didn’t get off to a great start in pass blocking drills. If he can’t get in the game on passing downs, it’s going to be hard to get in at all.
Coming off our report yesterday, Jon Baldwin continues to not impress.

Next month will be drafting time. Giddy up.

Daily Dynasty Football Update – July 30th

Things are picking up even more this in dynasty circles:

Lance Dunbar and Philip Tanner have been playing well in camp which means Joseph Randle is behind. We looked at Randle in our rookie running back series. At the moment, you’d be best to avoid Randle.
Christian Ponder is ‘consistently inconsistent.’ Sounds about right. Vikings receivers are on notice.
Reuben Randle is doing well in place of Hakeem Nicks at Giants camp. At 6′ 3″ and 210 pounds, Randle could easily replace Nicks should the Giants choose not to re-sign him. Grab Randle if you can.
Kevin Kolb is talking up Robert Woods in Buffalo. We looked into Woods long-term value in our rookie wide receiver series. He’s definitely someone to keep on the radar as well.

Daily Dynasty Football Update – July 29th

Training camp is kicking into high gear. Let’s see what we got:

Of course, the season-ending injuries to Jeremy Maclin and Dennis Pitta were the big stories. We looked at what they mean, fantasy-wise, here.
Vance McDonald looks to get a good look in the pre-season to determine what his role will be early on. We looked at McDonald’s long-term prospects here. With a good, young offense and the mentoring of one of the best, the situation is ideal for McDonald to become an asset in dynasty leagues.
Kevin Kolb got more first-string snaps early on but E.J. Manual had his share. He’ll be given every opportunity to win the job so draft accordingly.
Jake Locker looked shaky in the beginning of camp but has picked it up. With a finite supply of starting quarterbacks, this is good news for those forced to roll with Locker as a backup.
Zach Ertz is also off to a good start. While, at first glance, it didn’t look like there’d be a place for Ertz, his receiving ability is too good to ignore. And with the same finite options as quarterback, drafting a quality tight end with promise is crucial. Ertz is a full-go in dynasty leagues.
