Dynasty Recap – Week 9 – Chiefs Jets, 24-10

  • Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith had a decent day with 199 yards passing and two touchdowns. Smith will never be better than a low-end QB2.
  • Jets receiver Percy Harvin had a big day with 11 catches for 129 yards on 13 targets. If this was indicative of things to come, Harvin could finally break out unlike anytime when he was in Seattle.
  • The other Jets receiver, Eric Decker had nine catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Decker has quietly had a solid season and should benefit from a new quarterback in New York next year.
  • Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston had two more sacks to add to his league-leading total and is on pace to break the all-time record. He continues to be a LB2 with LB1 upside.

  • A new entry in the top five with Josh Gordon at #4. Gordon did a lot with little to work with on offense so anything should be an upgrade in 2014.
  • You can certainly see a trend in the biggest risers: the Bears Alshon Jeffery is up to 9th from 15th; Steeler Antonio Brown is up to 11th from 14th; Chargers rookie Keenan Allen makes the biggest leap to 15th from 24th; and the Vikings Cordarrelle Patterson to 17th from 21st. All are under the age of 26.
  • Drops include the Seahawks Percy Harvin from 9th to 12th primarily because he can’t seem to get on the field; Bucs Vincent Jackson goes from 20th to 26th since Lovie Smith was hired as coach; the enigma Hakeem Nicks drops from 23rd to 29th and could fall further depending on where he signs.

Daily Dynasty Update – December 12th

  • Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is back as the starter, dashing the hopes of saavy Josh McCown owners. Currently, they’re about equal in dynasty rankings as neither is guaranteed to come back to Chicago. Cutler has the leg up since he’ll surely sign on as a starter somewhere. McCown could as well for a team drafting a young quarterback in need of a tutor.
  • The stars are lining up for Da’Rick Rogers as Colts receiver LaVon Brazill isn’t practicing and is in a walking boot. Rogers will have little competition for targets and should be owned in all dynasty leagues if he’s still available.
  • Seahawks receiver Percy Harvin still isn’t over his hip issues and it’s fair to wonder if he’ll even be back this season. Seattle has done well without him and they could keep it going while getting Harvin healthy for 2014. He’ll be on plenty of fantasy radars next year.
  • Raiders running back Marcel Reece will be relegated to the backup role with Rashad Jennings returns. Reece was re-signed in 2013 but not to be a featured back.
  • Packers receiver Randall Cobb has been cleared to run but don’t expect him back this year. The Packers should focus on getting healthy for 2014.

Daily Dynasty Update – October 17th

  • Seattle receiver Percy Harvin will start practicing this week. It’s a great sign of Harvin’s progress but also means this week might be the last week you have a legitimate shot to trade for him.
  • RGIII plans on running more. In the short-term, this could be a boon for Griffin’s fantasy value but you have to wonder how sustainable it is, especially in dynasty circles.
  • Patriots receiver Danny Amendola has officially been diagnosed as concussed. You have to wonder how Amendola keeps getting hurt. His value is also all over the place in dynasty leagues – some probably think there’s still something there and would still want a decent return. While others might be ready to rid themselves of this walking injury report. His status in fantasy, in general, is a true toss-up.
  • Arizona running back Ryan Williams has been a healthy scratch in each game this season. It’s safe to drop him in all formats, even deeper leagues.
  • Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo is officially done for the season. But any astute dynasty player knows this would be a perfect time to pick him off someone else’s team, especially if they’re in it to win it this year.
