Dynasty Recap – Week 16 – 49ers outlast Falcons, 34-24

  • 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick went 13 of 21 for 197 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 51 yards and another score. Kaepernick and Russell Wilson are in similar situations wherein their value is capped by the talent around them. Should the 49ers dramatically improve their receiving corps, watch out.
  • Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan had a nice night, going 37 of 48 for 348 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Ryan is a big bounce back dynasty player for 2014 with Julio Jones coming back.
  • 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree showed what the 49ers what they were missing after catching five balls for 102 yards. Crabtree is one of those prospects that might actually improve in value with another top-notch receiver playing opposite him in San Francisco.
  • Falcons receiver Roddy White had a vintage night with 12 catches for 141 yards and a touchdown. White will be 33 next year but, if healthy, is just as dominant as he always was.
  • 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman had 11 tackles plus an interception returned for a touchdown. Bowman has filled the stat sheet all year and has a case for fantasy IDP MVP. He’ll be a top-ranked LB1 heading in to 2014.

Dynasty Recap – Week 14 – 49ers escape Seahawks, 19-17

  • 49ers running back Frank Gore turned back the clock and had 110 yards on 17 carries. He’s already 30 and only under contract with San Francisco for one more year. Gore’s dynasty value won’t last much longer.
  • Seahawks rookie tight end Luke Willson had three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. Willson has the physical tools to be a productive tight end for many years. Keep an eye on him in the off-season.
  • 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman had nine more tackles and a sack. On the year, Bowman has 120 tackles, four sacks, six passes defended and three forced fumbles. Bowman is a LB1 in any dynasty format.

Dynasty Recap – Week 11 – Saints slip by 49ers, 23-20

  • 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick had another sub-par day, going 17 of 31 for 127 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Dynasty owners of Kap can’t wait for Michael Crabtree’s return. It might also be a good time to buy-low on Kaepernick for  trigger-happy owners.
  • Saints running back Pierre Thomas had another solid outing with 49 yards rushing on 11 carries to go along with five catches for 35 yards. Thomas is a product of the Saints offense and about as boom-or-bust as it gets. But he’s still valuable as long as he’s in New Orleans.
  • 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman had a big day with 15 tackles. Bowman continues to outplay other 49ers linebackers, including Patrick Willis, and should be a LB1 for many, many years.

Dynasty Recap – Week 5 – 49ers demolish Texans, 34-3

  • Houston running back Arian Foster is looking more like his old self again. I still wouldn’t trust it for dynasty purposes beyond this year and would try to get value for him now.
  • Meanwhile, fellow running back Ben Tate had 4.0 YPC and continues to show he can produce as well. He’s a guy to target and she’s sure to get a starting job somewhere next year.
  • Unfortunately, the DeAndre Hopkins train has been slowing down as he only had four receptions for 23 yards for a second straight disappointing week. Hopkins will still be fine and now might actually be a good time to try to pick him off.
  • For San Francisco, running the ball worked again (shock) as Frank Gore had 81 yards on 17 carries. Gore still has another year on his contract and I just can’t see anyone taking his place before then. Sorry all you Marcus Lattimore/Kenall Hunter lovers.
  • The receivers in San Francisco are just…bad. And until Michael Crabtree comes back and they improve the position as a whole, Colin Kaepernick will suffer as well. I trust the brain trust to upgrade the receivers in the off-season and Kap will be fine.
  • 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman continues to do this thing with 13 more tackles. He might be the best linebacker in dynasty IDP leagues.
  • 49ers rookie safety Eric Reid continued his good play with eight tackles and a pass defended. He should be a good one for a while.

Dynasty Linebacker Rankings – Top Tier

After just calculating the amalgamated linebacker rankings, it’s clear there’s a top tier of five. Luke Kuechly of Carolina is the consensus #1 no matter what rankings you’re looking at. The combination of his age (22) and the fact that he’ll be a three-down back on a pretty bad team means he should see plenty of opportunities to be right in the action for many years to come.

The next two spots are interchangeable and include San Francisco’s NaVorro Bowman and St. Louis’ James Laurinaitis. Laurinaitis is another three-down back playing the middle. He seemingly had his hands on everything – four passes defended, two interceptions and 117 solo tackles to go with 25 assists. The guy is a beast and is only ranked lower than Kuechly because of his age (26). The same could be said of Bowman who actually had more total tackles than Laurinaitis (148-142), more sacks (2.0-0.5), more passes defended (6-4). He’s also a year younger (25-26). If you put a gun to my head and told me to pick one, I’d go with Bowman.

The next two include Seattle’s Bobby Wagner, with a similar resume than Laurinaitis and Bowman but is just 23.

Next is the first outside linebacker of the group, Lavonte David. The second year linebacker from Tampa Bay is just 23 and has the potential to rack up sacks with 19 tackles for a loss in his rookie season.

Bottom line is you can’t go wrong if one of these guys is your lead LB for the next five years.
