Dynasty Recap – Week 2 – Buccaneers 26, Saints 19

Buccaneers

  • Quarterback Jameis Winston bounced back from a horrible debut with 207 yards passing and a touchdown along with 23 yards on the ground and another touchdown. This was the kind of performance we expected and it should solidify his status as a QB2 in dynasty rankings.
  • In IDP news, defensive end Jacquies Smith had a big day with three sacks giving him four on the season. The 25-year old has bounced around the league but may have found a place in Tampa and could end up in the DL2 conversation if he keeps these numbers up.

Saints

  • Quarterback Drew Brees turned in another sub-par performance with only 255 yards and a touchdown and an interception. It’s fair to wonder if his physical regression plus the loss of some key weapons has had its effect. He’s in the big group of low-end QB1s in dynasty rankings but you might want to get out while you still can.
  • Another weak performance for running back Mark Ingram with 53 yards on just 16 carries but he did have a touchdown. It’s interesting to remember the hype behind Ingram in the off-season but he can’t be considered more than a borderline RB2/3 in dynasty rankings.

Dynasty Recap – Week 2 – Vikings 26, Lions 16

Vikings

  • Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had another average game with 153 yards and a touchdown but added 21 yards on the ground and another touchdown. No need to abandon ship on Bridgewater yet but hopefully the hype catches up soon.
  • Meanwhile, Adrian Peterson ran wild for 134 yards rushing plus 58 yards receiving. He should continue to be a RB1 in dynasty rankings until he shows he can’t do it.
  • Tight end Kyle Rudolph had another five-catch game with 30 yards and a touchdown. He’ll continue to rise in the dynasty rankings.

Lions

  • Quarterback Matt Stafford had a very Stafford-like game with 286 yards on 53 pass attempts with two touchdowns and an interception. Stafford has clearly played himself out of elite QB1 status in dynasty leagues.
  • Rookie running back Ameer Abdullah had a poor game with nine yards rushing and nine yards receiving on just eight touches. He should still lead the team in carries going forward so he’ll be fine.
  • Receiver Calvin Johnson bounced back with 10 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. He may not be the elite dynasty receiver he was but he’s still a low-end WR1.

Dynasty Recap – Week 2 – Cardinals 48, Bears 23

Cardinals

  • Carson Palmer continues to roll with 185 yards and four touchdowns plus an interception. He continues to provide low-end QB1 numbers and is a high-end QB2 in dynasty rankings. The only drawback is his health or lack thereof.
  • Receiver Larry Fitzgerald had a throwback game with 112 yards on eight catches and three touchdowns. It’s a pretty diverse receiving corps in Arizona with Fitzgerald and John Brown fighting for attention. None of them should be considered more than a WR3 in dynasty rankings.

Bears

  • Running back Matt Forte shows no signs of slowing down with 61 yards rushing plus four catches for 44 yards. He may be spelled more this year but he’s still production RB1 numbers. And with the injuries piling up, Forte is the only playmaker in Chicago.

Dynasty Recap – Week 2 – Bengals 24, Chargers 19

Bengals

  • Quarterback Andy Dalton threw for just 214 yards but three touchdowns. Dalton is one of the rare touchdown-depending quarterbacks and will always be a QB2 in dynasty rankings.
  • Running back Gio Bernard had 123 rushing yards on 20 carries after filling in for starter Jeremy Hill. Bernard still has value as a RB3 in PPR league whether Hill is injured or not.
  • Tight end Tyler Eifert continues his breakout season with four catches for 49 yards and a touchdown. He’s already at TE1 in dynasty rankings but could elevate top-tier by the end of the season.

Chargers

  • Quarterback Philip Rivers had a decent day with 241 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. It’s low-end QB1 numbers.
  • Rookie running back Melvin Gordon had 88 yards on 16 carries which is a lot more like it. He’ll continue to be the first and second down back so his production could be limited by lack of touchdown opportunities.
  • Meanwhile, Danny Woodhead had six catches for 68 yards 36 on the ground. It remains to be seen if his role will be affected by Antonio Gates absence but, if not, Woodhead will continue to be a RB2/3 in PPR dynasty rankings.

Dynasty Recap – Week 2 – Browns 28, Titans 14

Browns

  • Unlike last week, the Browns offense didn’t look that bad starting with quarterback Johnny Manziel. He finished with 172 yards and two touchdowns. He didn’t do much on the ground but didn’t have to as Cleveland jumped out to a big lead and never looked back.
  • Speaking of running the ball, starter Isaiah Crowell had 72 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. This is more like it from Crowell but he still split carries with rookie Duke Johnson. Expect an even split most of the season with Johnson being the better play.
  • Receiver Travis Benjamin had another big day with three catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Cleveland throws it very little but when they have this season, it’s been to Benjamin. With no other options, he may very well be the top receiver for the Browns which can make him a decent WR4/5.

Titans

  • Rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota had another solid day with 257 yards and two touchdowns plus two fumbles. He hasn’t played the best defenses the last two weeks but the touchdowns are encouraging. He could end up a QB1 by the end of the season.
  • Running back Bishop Sankey came back down to Earth with 42 yards on 12 carries. He’s nothing more than a very low-end RB2, if that, in dynasty rankings.

Dynasty Recap – Week 2 – Redskins 24, Rams 10

Redskins

  • It was a coming out party for rookie running back Matt Jones with 123 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns plus three catches for 23 yards. Good luck keeping him on taxi squads this year as Jones appears to be the clear heir apparent to Alfred Morris next year
  • Tight end Jordan Reed had another solid outing with six catches for 82 yards on six targets. If Reed is healthy, he’ll continue to be a big part of the offense this year and beyond.

Rams

  • It was Tre Mason’s turn as the running back of choice in St. Louis but didn’t do much to impress with only 26 yards on seven carries. For the Rams, they can’t wait for first round pick Todd Gurley to show up here he will be instantly put in the lineup.
  • On the defensive side, linebacker Alec Ogletree racked up 16 tackles. He continues to make big plays and is an ideal LB2 in IDP dynasty leagues.

Dynasty Recap – Week 2 – Broncos 31, Chiefs 24

Broncos

  • He may not be the same old Peyton Manning but he’s still pretty good. On 45 pass attempts, he had just 256 yards but made that up with three touchdowns.
  • Meanwhile, his receivers aren’t going anywhere either with Demaryius Thomas catching eight balls for 116 yards and Emmanuel Sanders catching eight for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas should still be considered a low-end WR1 for dynasty purposes but ring as much fantasy value as you can out of Sanders.
  • The running game is not performing as everyone thought they might with just 61 yards between Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson. As long as the Broncos keep winning, it’s doubtful they switch to the run.

Chiefs

  • Not much to get excited about except for Jamaal Charles. He ran for 125 yards and a touchdown but did have two costly fumbles. Regardless, Charles is still a RB1 in dynasty circles thanks to his rock-solid status as the starter.
  • Receiver Jeremy Maclin had just four catches for 57 yards on seven targets. Unfortunately, that may be the typical stat line for Maclin in Kansas City.
  • In IDP land, linebacker Justin Houston had two more sacks because THAT IS ALL JUSTIN HOUSTON DOES. He’s a top linebacker in IDP leagues, especially in big-play leagues.

Dynasty Recap – Week 1 – Cowboys 27, Giants 26

Cowboys

  • Tony Romo was his usual gunslinger self with 356 yards and three touchdowns (plus two interceptions). He’s, at worst, a low-end QB1 in dynasty leagues but has room to grow now that Dallas has little depth at running back.
  • Speaking of, Joseph Randle had a decent day on the ground with 65 rushing yards plus three catches for 42 yards. This may be a best-case scenario for Randle throughout the season which makes him a RB2 in dynasty, at best.
  • The main beneficiary of Dez Bryant’s absence had to be tight end Jason Witten with eight catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Witten’s stats have gone down the last three seasons but he could be due for a resurgence without DeMarco Murray carrying the load. He’s a low-end TE1.

Giants

  • An all-around bad night for the Giants started with Eli Manning. Going only 20 of 36 for 193 yards isn’t good for anyone. It’s only one game but Eli is still a QB2.
  • With Eli turning in a clunker, Odell Beckham did too with just five catches for 44 yards. Beckham is rated as a WR1 in dynasty leagues but it might not be a bad idea to see him have another great year before anointing him as such.
  • Very little going on in the run game as well with lead back Rashad Jennings going for 52 yards on 13 carries. Andre Williams got six carries so Jennings is, by no means, a bell cow. His ceiling will be a RB3.

Dynasty Recap – Week 1 – Broncos 19, Ravens 13

Broncos

  • Peyton Manning’s bad day was part of a trend for Denver. Manning had only 175 yards plus an interception. Whether it’s the decreased arm strength or something else, Manning can’t be counted on to be a QB1 right now.
  • In the running game, Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson had the same amount of carries. Good for Hillman, not good for Anderson. It remains to be seen if that trend continues.
  • The receiving game didn’t have much to show with Demaryius Thomas catching seven for 60 and Emmanuel Sanders catching eight for 65. No receiver should be counted on to be a WR1 until Manning’s issues are sorted out.

Ravens

  • It was bad.

Dynasty Recap – Week 1 – Bengals 33, Raiders 13

Bengals

  • It was the good Andy Dalton with 269 yards and two touchdowns. Dalton will never be a QB1 in dynasty rankings but can have some decent games against bad teams.
  • Tight end Tyler Eifert broke out with nine catches, 104 yards and two touchdowns. If he keeps that up he’ll be a top five dynasty tight end.
  • Running back Jeremy Hill didn’t have to do much but had 63 yards and two touchdowns. Hill should be just fine and still a RB1 in dynasty rankings.

Raiders

  • Unfortunately, there weren’t a lot of good things, fantasy or otherwise, from the Raiders. Running back Latavius Murray had just 44 yards on 11 carries plus seven catches for 36 yards. The big lead by Cincinnati took Murray out of the running game which could be common this year. He’s no better than a RB3 in dynasty rankings.
