Dynasty Recap – Week 2 – Falcons 24, Giants 20

Falcons

  • Quarterback Matt Ryan went off with 363 yards and a touchdown. More days like this will push him squarely in the top five of dynasty quarterbacks.
  • His favorite receiver, Julio Jones, caught 13 passes for 135 yards on 15 targets. Jones can absolutely make the case for being dynasty’s top receiver.
  • Rookie pass rusher Vic Beasley had five tackles and a sack in his second career game. It’s a good start for Beasley where he should be considered a DL4 but can easily top out as a DL2.

Giants

  • Despite the close losses, quarterback Eli Manning is still performing well with 292 yards and two touchdowns. He’s probably not a sure-fire QB1 in dynasty rankings but he’s a high-end QB2.
  • As Manning goes, those around him go like running back Shane Vereen. He caught eight balls for 76 yards and ran for 19 more. In PPR leagues, Vereen is a solid RB3.
  • Of course, the top dog in New York is Odell Beckham who turned in a 7/146/1 line today. He’s a top five dynasty option at WR and will be for a while.

Updated Dynasty Running Back Rankings – December

Be sure to check out our updated running back rankings here

  • The top four remain the same with LeSean McCoy, Jamaal Charles, Adrian Peterson and Doug Martin. Shouldn’t be much change in the 2014 dynasty running back rankings either.
  • The biggest riser this month were rookies Giovani Bernard (5) of Cincinnati and Zac Stacy (20) of the Rams along with New England pass specialist Shane Vereen (16). Both rookies were solid contributors all year and should have even more success in 2014 with more opportunities and earlier playing time. Vereen, with a whole year under his belt, should be a PPR monster.
  • The drop continues to include Trent Richardson (12) who should be even lower heading in to 2014. Easily the year’s biggest disappointment.

Dynasty Recap – Week 14 – Patriots beat Browns, 27-26

  • For the last few games, and even in this one, it looked like Tom Brady was back. He went 32 of 52 for 418 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. Of course, that was before the latest Rob Gronkowski injury. Stay tuned to see how Brady adjusts (again).
  • Browns receiver Josh Gordon did things again. Catching seven for 151 and a touchdown, it’s fair to wonder if Gordon has reached the top-tier of dynasty receivers.
  • Patriots running back Shane Vereen had quite the day out of the backfield, catching 12 for 153 yards. He even included a rushing touchdown. Vereen is under contract for one more year when he could be ‘Woodheaded’ out of New England but, for now, Vereen is a fine dynasty running back, especially in PPR leagues.

Dynasty Recap – Week 13 – Patriots escape Texans, 34-31

  • The Patriots running game appears to include Shane Vereen running the ball in addition to catching passes. With Stevan Ridley benched, the Patriots will need to fill the void in the running game. Vereen rushed 10 times for 38 yards along with five catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. For all intents and purposes, Vereen is the running back to own in New England.
  • On the other side of the field, Texans running back Ben Tate ran for 102 yards for 22 yards and three touchdowns. There was no time share with backup Dennis Johnson and it put Tate back on track to be the starter somewhere else in 2014.
  • Patriots slot receiver Julian Edelman tied for the team lead with 12 targets for nine catches and 101 yards. You have to wonder if New England would want to bring Edelman back next year or roll with Danny Amendola. Edelman has been the preferred receiver the last couple weeks and is on pace for 90+ catches and 900+ yards.
  • Texans receiver Andre Johnson went off, again, for eight catches and 121 yards on nine targets. Johnson is quarterback- and team-proof so no matter where he plays next year, he’s still a strong WR in dynasty circles.

Dynasty Recap – Week 12 – Patriots come back over Broncos, 34-31

  • Patriots quarterback Tom Brady looked like his old self again with 344 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions. Even at 36, Brady is a low-end QB1 in dynasty.
  • Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno had a ridiculous night, carrying the ball 37 times for a career-high 224 yards and a touchdown. With a team-friendly club option for next year, expect Moreno to stick around at least through 2014.
  • Patriots running back Shane Vereen looked like a RB1 with eight catches for 60 yards. He also added 31 yards rushing after fumbles plagued other New England running backs. Vereen is only 24 and signed through next year so dynasty leaguers will get at least one more year out of him.
  • Broncos linebacker Von Miller had, by far, his best game of the year with eight tackles, two sacks, a tackle for a loss and a forced fumble. Hopefully Miller put his off-field issues behind him for good and he can continue to produce like a LB1.

Dynasty Recap – Week 11 – Panthers slip by Patriots, 24-20

  • Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had a ridiculous game, going 19 of 28 for just 209 yards but three touchdowns. He also added 62 yards on the ground. He’s a no-doubt, top five dynasty quarterback option.
  • Patriots running back Shane Vereen caught eight passes for 65 yards and was the most targeted receiver for New England with 11. At just 24, Vereen could be locked in to this role for many years, provided New England re-signs him after 2014.
  • Panthers receiver Brandon LaFell had another nice game with seven catches for 59 yards and a touchdown. He was also tied for most targets. Don’t get too excited, however, as LaFell is a free agent after this year and Carolina will surely look for an upgrade/heir apparent for Steve Smith.
  • New England defensive end Rob Ninkovich had two more sacks and a team-high nine tackles. It’s his third straight game with a sack as it looks like he’s finally turning on the jets. Keep monitoring his progress but, at this rate, Ninkovich should be a DL2 in your dynasty league.
  • Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly is also turning it in as he had 12 more tackles last night to give him 87 on the year. He’s firmly locked in as a LB1 in dynasty circles.
