Updated Dynasty Running Back Rankings – October 2014

Updated running back rankings, in their entirety, can be found here.

New top five member this month with DeMarco Murray sneaking in at five. The top four remain the same with LeSean McCoy, Jamaal Charles, Eddie Lacy, and Gio Bernard. Doug Martin drops from four to eight.
Big risers this month include Mark Ingram to 33rd from 40th; Knile Davis to 44th from 52nd; and Ahmad Bradshaw sneaking up to 52nd.
Big drops include Adrian Peterson to 16th from 6th; Toby Gerhart from 30th to 37th; Maurice Jones-Drew to 50th from 42nd; Danny Woodhead to 53rd from 47th; Jonathan Stewart to 54th from 48th; Pierre Thomas to 55th from 49th; and Marcus Lattimore to 57th from 43rd.
Rookie movers include Carlos Hyde up to 18th from 23rd; Jeremy Hill to 29th from 35th; Isaiah Crowell to 40th from 57th; Jerick McKinnon to 41st from 54th; and Andre Williams to 42nd from 51st.

Daily Dynasty Update – July 18th

In another setback, it looks like 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore will start training camp on the Non-Football Injury list. It’s another sign that Lattimore will be behind Carlos Hyde when camp opens.
In positive running back news, it looks like the Giants will have David Wilson for the season. Any dynasty owners still hanging out shouldn’t expect much from Wilson but could be a nice bounce back candidate in a limited role.
Currently, look for the Bears to role with Jimmy Clausen as Jay Cutlers backup. Clausen might be worth a deep stash or taxi squad consideration, moreso if you have Cutler. Clausen will only be 27 this season and enters one of the better quarterback situations around.

Daily Dynasty Update – June 19th

As expected, Toby Gerhart is expected to get a bulk of the carries in Jacksonville. Gerhart has plenty of tread left on the tires and is an interested dynasty case. He should top out as a RB2.
The Steelers are permanently installing the no-huddle which will mean more plays for the offense and an uptick for all players.
For those holding out hope that Matt Barkley might develop into something of value in dynasty leagues, you could probably move on.
In some positive Marcus Lattimore news, he looks better and more explosive. The 49ers running back situation is one of the most tenuous in dynasty.

Daily Dynasty Update – May 29th

Lions running back Joique Bell is still out, recovering from off-season surgery. Bell was going to be a hot dynasty commodity this year with a new contract and increase playing time.
Steelers receiver Markus Wheaton opened camp as the starter across Antonio Brown. The move was expected but some are predicting rookie Martavis Bryant could unseat Wheaton before the season starts. While Bryant is a big target, he’s still pretty raw. If Wheaton plays well early, he’ll have a stranglehold on the job.
In other receiver news, Marquess Wilson opened camp as the third receiver in the Bears three-wide sets. Wilson has a ton of potential and is a good dynasty prospect to have. He’s first in-line should either Alshon Jeffery or Brandon Marshall go down.
49ers running back Marcus Lattimore took handoffs at OTA’s but not at full speed. There just hasn’t been any good news on the Lattimore-front lately.
Expect the suspension for Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington to be lengthy. Washington has all the talent in the world but can’t seem to stay out of trouble. I would trade him for what you can.

Rookies new to the list include Bishop Sankey at 17; Carlos Hyde at 23; Tre Mason at 29; Jeremy Hill at 33; Terrance West at 35; Devonta Freeman at 39; Ka’Deem Carey at 46; Andre Williams at 53; Lache Seastrunk at 54; Charlie Sims at 56; James White at 61; Jerick McKinnon at 65; Isaiah Crowell at 68; and Storm Johnson at 69.
Other notables include Toby Gerhart’s rise from 46 to 36 thanks to Jacksonville not providing any better options; Marcus Lattimore dropping from 29 to 43 thanks to Carlos Hyde; and Bryce Brown dropping from 35 to 47 thanks to his draft-day trade.

Daily Dynasty Update – May 6th

49ers running back Marcus Lattimore isn’t all the way back yet from his knee injury which could be good, or bad, in your dynasty league. He was a hot commodity last year, especially in leagues with taxi squads. However, with the influx of talent in this draft, he may be lost in the shuffle.
In other 49er running back news, LaMichael James isn’t at voluntary workouts. Any dynasty value he has is diminishing. If you still have James on your team, it’s time to move on.
After some initial speculation, the Rams insist they aren’t shopping Sam Bradford. It was believed they were targeting Johnny Manziel which, if true, would have severely handicapped Manziel’s dynasty value.

Daily Dynasty Update – April 21st

49ers running back Marcus Lattimore says he’s ready to go. Lattimore sat out all of 2014 with a knee injury he sustained in college but should challenge both Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter for carries.
While Mason Foster’s hold on the middle linebacker position in Tampa’s new defense initially looked shaky, it appears he’ll get first crack at the position. Foster came on strong in IDP leagues last year and should replicate that success. He’ll be an ideal LB3 heading in to 2014.
The Raiders are fully expected to waive quarterback Terrelle Pryor today. No one really knows what the Raiders plan is but it apparently doesn’t involve Pryor. And if you can’t make it Oakland, you probably can’t make it anywhere.
In other quarterback news, it’s going to be an open competition in New York between Mike Vick and Geno Smith. This won’t help dynasty drafters but neither were supposed to be hot dynasty commodities anyway.

Daily Dynasty Update – February 26th

The Saints could release running back Pierre Thomas to make room for Jimmy Graham. If that happens, it’ll be a big boost for Khiry Robinson’s dynasty prospects and buy Mark Ingram one more year in New Orleans.
Free agent tight end Jermichael Finley is seeing a good amount of interest in his services. He could be moving on from Green Bay after all, leaving Brandon Bostick as a breakout candidate.
49ers running back Marcus Lattimore should be good to go for training camp in April. The 49ers will need to scale Frank Gore’s workload back and Lattimore was one of the top running back prospects before shredding his knee. He’s another breakout candidate.
Free agent running back Rashard Mendenhall wrote a post that strongly resembles a retirement speech. His dynasty prospects are done.
Eagles running back Chris Polk is expected to have a bigger role next year than even Bryce Brown. There’s even hints of the Eagles trying to trade Brown. It’s quite a fall for Brown who was a hot commodity last year but Polk is the backup to have in Philly in 2014.

Daily Dynasty Update – January 24th

Giants running back David Wilson now has his neck brace off after surgery. It’s good news for Wilson but dynasty owners are still in a holding pattern. Wilson’s availability right now is a complete question mark.
New Browns coach Mike Pettine is a fan of quarterback Brian Hoyer. At the very least, Hoyer will enter the season as one of the better backup prospects in all of football. It’s even possible the Browns take a project at QB and allow Hoyer the starting job one more year.
In an interesting stat, Texans quarterback Case Keenum lost more yards per sack than any other quarterback in the league. Keenum is not the long-term answer at quarterback for the Texans who are widely expected to draft one in May with the first overall pick.
The Frank Gore contract with San Francisco is finally becoming an issue with Gore due $6 million next year at age 31. Even an amateur Madden player in Franchise mode would know that is too much for a 31-year old. It shouldn’t be an issue as Gore is expected back next year but his days are numbered as a reliable fantasy back. Trade him now and look for Kendall Hunter and Marcus Lattimore to get more looks in 2014 no matter what.

Daily Dynasty Update – November 20th

49ers rookie running back Marcus Lattimore has been cleared to practice. He won’t play in 2013 but it’s encouraging progress heading in 2014. Lattimore is a strong dynasty prospect in every sense of the word.
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will be 100% healthy before the Eagles next game with Arizona. However, it’s hard to imagine Vick usurping Nick Foles at this point. Vick is almost at the point of being droppable.
Raiders running back Rashad Jennings will still be involved with the offense when incumbent Darren McFadden comes back. Neither are strong dynasty players and both are free agents after 2013. Expect the Raiders to either re-sign McFadden at a bargain or move on.
Patriots running back Stevan Ridley lost another fumble Monday night. However, he was still in the game for a handful of plays after and was not completely in the dog house. I’d be nervous this off-season as a Ridley owner. You never know what the brain trust in New England is thinking.
