- Big news from Denver as the Broncos are not expected to re-sign running back Knowshon Moreno. Montee Ball dynasty owners need to plan accordingly. Ball came on strong down the stretch and proved he can handle the load. With at least one year in a Peyton Manning offense, Ball could flirt with RB1 status in 2014.
- Lions running back Joique Bell claims there’s interest on both sides for a long-term deal. Bell came on strong in place of an injured Reggie Bush throughout the season with over 50 catches and over 1,000 yards from scrimmage. A deal would be good news for Bell but would significantly hinder Reggie Bush’s dynasty value going forward.
- New Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay loves his new tight end Jordan Reed. This will only enhance Reed’s value heading in to 2014. As a sufferer of a severe concussion last year, Reed’s health needs to be monitored especially playing such a busy position.
- A crowded backfield in Philadelphia could mean someone is on the way out, according to a Philadelphia blog. Additionally, with both Chris Polk and Bryce Brown being on the roster before Chip Kelly’s tenure started, the same blog suggests he could find one better suited to his offense in the draft or free agency. Stay tuned as this looks like it might be a fluid situation.
- Bears defensive lineman Shea McClellin is being converted to a strong-side linebacker. Maybe this will salvage some value out of McClellin who has been a huge disappointment as a lineman his first two years.
- Ravens running back Bernard Pierce had rotator cuff surgery and will miss the next 4-5 months. The recovery will impede his ability to get acclimated to new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak’s system. Pierce was one of the bigger disappointments after averaging 2.9 YPC last year after a terrific rookie season. If the Texans offense is any indicator, Pierce would play the Ben Tate role to Ray Rice’s Arian Foster – if he can stay healthy.

Daily Dynasty Update – January 29th
- Apparently the Patriots were interested in trading for Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald last year and, presumably, would still be interested. It was shoot Fitz’s dynasty value back up after falling for a few years now. The biggest obstacle is his $18 million cap number. Stay tuned.
- We now have some insight as to why Broncos rookie running back Montee Ball didn’t start immediately – it was simply overwhelming. As Ball alluded to, it’s a big leap to go from a college playbook to a Peyton Manning playbook. But as any Ball dynasty owners know, Ball was handed more responsibility as the year went on and could possibly be a starter in 2014 with Knowshon Moreno becoming a free agent. Either way, Ball is in for a bigger 2014.
- The Cardinals are making tackle Breanden Albert their biggest priority this season. If they land him, every Cardinals offensive player will get a slight bump up, especially in the running game.
- Chargers linebacker Manti Te’o had foot surgery to clean up the injury that plagued him early in the season. Hopefully, Te’o can head into 2014 healthier than last year and prove the Chargers were right in drafting him in the second round.
Dynasty Recap – Week 13 – Broncos shut down Chiefs, 35-28
- Broncos rookie running back Montee Ball impressed with 117 yards on just 13 carries while incumbent Knowshon Moreno ran for just 18 yards on 15 carries. Moreno’s came in to the game nicked up but it’s encouraging that Ball was so productive against a decent defense and, maybe most importantly, didn’t turn the ball over. More performances like that and Ball will have some momentum heading in to the 2014 season.
- Broncos receiver Eric Decker was Peyton’s man-crush this week with eight receptions for 174 yards and a ridiculous four touchdowns. Not to be outdone Demaryius Thomas had 106 yards on just three catches. You really can’t go wrong with either one.
- Chiefs middle linebacker Derrick Johnson had nine more tackles to bring his season total to 92. Johnson is signed relatively cheap through 2015 so Johnson should continue to put up LB1 tackle numbers.
Dynasty Recap – Week 12 – Patriots come back over Broncos, 34-31
- Patriots quarterback Tom Brady looked like his old self again with 344 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions. Even at 36, Brady is a low-end QB1 in dynasty.
- Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno had a ridiculous night, carrying the ball 37 times for a career-high 224 yards and a touchdown. With a team-friendly club option for next year, expect Moreno to stick around at least through 2014.
- Patriots running back Shane Vereen looked like a RB1 with eight catches for 60 yards. He also added 31 yards rushing after fumbles plagued other New England running backs. Vereen is only 24 and signed through next year so dynasty leaguers will get at least one more year out of him.
- Broncos linebacker Von Miller had, by far, his best game of the year with eight tackles, two sacks, a tackle for a loss and a forced fumble. Hopefully Miller put his off-field issues behind him for good and he can continue to produce like a LB1.
Dynasty Recap – Week 11 – Broncos beat Chiefs, 27-17
- The Denver running game didn’t do much as Knowshon Moreno only had 79 yards on 27 carries while Montee Ball had 25 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns. The only thing to discern from this is Ronnie Hillman is long gone. Expect a Moreno/Ball timeshare for the rest of 2013 and possibly even 2014.
- Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe had another solid outing with four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown. But don’t be fooled – Denver has a bottom-five pass defense. Bowe is still a weak dynasty option due to the limits of quarterback Alex Smith.
- Meanwhile, Denver receiver Demaryius Thomas had another big day, hauling in five passes for 121 yards. There’s just no better dynasty option at receiver in Denver.
- Denver linebacker Danny Trevathan had another double-digit tackle game with 11. He now has 81 on the year on his way to a Pro Bowl year. He should be a LB1/2 for the foreseeable future.
Dynasty Recap – Week 10 – Broncos beat Chargers, 28-20
- Denver running back Knowshon Moreno continues to play at a high level with 65 yards rushing on 13 carries and eight catches for 49 yards. Moreno has a relatively cheap team option for next year and should get that if Denver wants to keep its offensive machine humming.
- Denver rookie running back Montee Ball had 20 yards on four carries while, more importantly, not turning the ball over. Ball is getting valuable experience in one of the league’s best offenses.
- Denver linebacker Danny Trevathan had 11 more tackles to bring his season total to 59. Trevathan has been a force in pass defense as well with three interceptions and eight passes defended.
Dynasty Recap – Week 8 – Broncos blow out Redskins, 45-21
- Redskins rookie tight end Jordan Reed continued his breakout role with eight catches for 90 yards, albeit mostly in garbage time. Nonetheless, Reed is a good, young tight end that should be around awhile.
- Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno continues to stick around with 44 yards rushing to go along with six catches and 89 yards receiving.
- Meanwhile, Denver’s receivers continue to enjoy the spoils of catching passes from Peyton Manning. Wes Welker had six catches for 81 yards on 10 targets, Demaryius Thomas had seven catches for 75 yards on 11 targets and Eric Decker had four catches for 42 yards on seven targets. Like I said, you can’t go wrong with either one. Thomas might have a slight edge because of his age and contract.
- Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan had 10 tackles to give him 59 on the year. Currently, he’s on pace for almost 120. At just 23, Trevathan could be a valuable linebacker for your dynasty team.
Dynasty Recap – Week 6 – Broncos outlast Jaguars, 35-19
- Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon had another big day with 14 catches and 190 yards. Just imagine the possibilities if the Jaguars upgrade at quarterback.
- Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno had 15 carries compared to four for Ronnie Hillman and three for Montee Ball. Both Ball and Hillman could probably be had in your leagues for cheap just to see if one of them wins the job next year.
- Jaguars linebacker Paul Posluszny had good effort with seven tackles, a pass defended and an interception that happened to be returned for a touchdown. On the year, Pos has 54 tackles to go with seven passes defended, three tackles for a loss and two interceptions. He’s still one of the premier middle linebackers in IDP dynasty.
- Peyton Manning is still Peyton Manning.
Dynasty Recap – Week 5 – Broncos escape Cowboys, 51-48
- You really can’t go wrong with either Peyton Manning or Tony Romo as your dynasty quarterback. That is all.
- Denver running back Knowshon Moreno continued as the starter with 19 carries for 93 yards to go along with five catches. With Denver’s success, you have to wonder if they won’t want to keep Moreno beyond this year and inhibit Ronnie Hillman‘s and Montee Ball’s production.
- Denver tight end Julius Thomas was Manning’s favorite target with 12. As long as Peyton’s there, Thomas is a TE1 in dynasty leagues.
- Cowboys rookie receiver Terrance Williams had a career best day with four catches for 151 yards. With more days like that, Dallas might be inclined to let Miles Austin go at some point.
- Dallas safety Barry Church had 11 more tackles and is on pace for over 100 for year. At just 25, Church could be locked in to the free safety role for a while.
Daily Dynasty Football Update – July 31st
It’s the last day of the month. Let’s see what we got:
- Danny Amendola has been a bright spot in Patriots camp so far. They predict he should be able to do what Wes Welker did and catch 100 balls. In PPR dynasty leagues, Amendola is high on the list.
- Jason Witten is catching balls in the red zone during camp. Hopefully Witten can capitalize on that as he’s never had more than 9 touchdowns in a season. Witten is still solidly at #4 in dynasty rankings.
- The running back picture in Denver is still not clear. Until there is some clarity, don’t treat any back, Montee Ball especially, as a stud.
- Pierre Garcon is making the catches at camp. With RG3 as his quarterback, Garcon may be underrated with his current 26th dynasty ranking.
- Brock Osweiler improved greatly from last years camp to this years. As the primary backup to 37-year old Peyton Manning, Osweiler is a fantastic taxi squad prospect whether you have Manning or not.
- Jonathan Franklin didn’t get off to a great start in pass blocking drills. If he can’t get in the game on passing downs, it’s going to be hard to get in at all.
- Coming off our report yesterday, Jon Baldwin continues to not impress.
Next month will be drafting time. Giddy up.
