Dynasty Impact – Atlanta Falcons select Jake Matthews, OT

matthewsDynasty Impact: Unlike the raw Greg Robinson, drafted second overall, Matthews can start right away. His most value would be at left tackle but could be plugged in any position and upgrade the Falcons line. For Atlanta’s specialists, the pick will only help as Matt Ryan should stay upright more with Julio Jones the primary beneficiary. Both of their dynasty stocks are pointing up and Matthews should be a key contributer for a long time.

Dynasty Impact – Buffalo Bills select Sammy Watkins, WR

watkinsDynasty Impact: After trading up, the Bills got their man in the best wide receiver in the draft with Sammy Watkins. Not only showing a commitment to help E.J. Manual, Sammy Watkins is the best receiving prospect since Julio Jones, and provides the Bills with another playmaker alongside C.J. Spiller. He’ll start right away and, provided Manual can keep progressing, should be grabbed early in rookie dynasty drafts. Manual’s stock should also soar heading into 2014 dynasty leagues. Worst case scenario is the Bills dump Manual after not cutting it and getting another one for Watkins to catch passes from. Either way, Watkins will be a valuable commodity in 2014 dynasty drafts.

  • Big risers this month include new Bronco Emmanuel Sanders to 45th from 55th thanks to having Peyton Manning as his quarterback; Eagles receiver Riley Cooper moves to 52nd from 60th thanks to the trade of DeSean Jackson; and finally Packers receiver Jarrett Boykin to 58th from 68th thanks to James Jones’ departure.
  • The big drops this month include Saints receiver Marques Colston from 42nd to 50th thanks to the Saints more balanced offensive approach; the Vikings’ Greg Jennings drops from 43rd to 51st; finally Steve Smith drops from 58th to 70th thanks to his probably reduced role in Baltimore.

Daily Dynasty Update – February 16th

Daily Dynasty Update – January 21st

  • Falcons receiver Julio Jones is scheduled to be ready before training camp. That’s good news as Julio continues to be rated as a top-ten WR in dynasty leagues. He must stay healthy to stay there.
  • Patriots quarterback Tom Brady would like to see Julian Edelman back with the team in 2014. Dynasty owners of the free agent would to. New England is the only place where Edelman will retain his WR1 value in PPR dynasty leagues.
  • Look for the Bears to upgrade on Michael Bush at running back in the off-season. While initially, it may seem like a bad move for Matt Forte owners to have a more capable backup, it may lead to Forte lasting longer.
  • The Bills will hire a quarterbacks coach for the 2014 season in an effort to further along E.J. Manual’s progress. The Bills rolled without one last which was just one of the many issues the Bills offense had. The Chargers and Ken Whisenhunt are a good example of what happens when you hire a good offensive mind.

  • No changes at the top as the top seven stay the same: Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green, Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas, Julio Jones, Brandon Marshall, and Randall Cobb all stay the same.
  • The big risers include Josh Gordon (8), Antonio Brown (14), and Alshon Jeffery (22). All had the skill it was just a matter of putting it together. There should be no doubt heading in to 2014.
  • The only real drop was Marques Colston (47) which primarily is age. Any receiver in New Orleans is bound to be limited by the in-house competition.
