Updated Dynasty Tight End Rankings – April 2015

Complete updated dynasty tight end rankings can be found here.

Top five remains the same with Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham, Travis Kelce, Julius Thomas, and Greg Olsen.
Several big risers in the last rankings before next week’s NFL draft: Zach Ertz is up to 8th from 12th; Antonio Gates to 19th from 23rd; Richard Rodgers up to 26th from 32nd; Owen Daniels up to 27th from 34th; Josh Hill up to 30th after being unranked; and Virgil Green to 42nd after being unranked.
A few drops include Dennis Pitta to 34th after being 25th while Joseph Fauria to 44th from 40th.

Updated Dynasty Tight End Rankings – October 2014

Updated dynasty tight end rankings can be found here.

We have a new entry to the top five with Zach Ertz rising to 5th from 8th. The rest of the top five includes Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, and Jordan Cameron followed by Ertz.
The big risers include Travis Kelce to 12th from 19th, after a big first month, along with Larry Donnell to 19th after being unranked.
The big drops include Kyle Rudolph from 6th to 11th; Jason Witten from 12th to 16th; and Dennis Pitta from 13th to 20th after another hip injury.

Dynasty Recap – Week 1 – Bengals beat Ravens, 23-16

Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton had a 300 yard passing game with one touchdown. Dalton has quietly gotten better each year and shouldn’t be ignored in dynasty.
Good news for Gio Bernard owners is his leading the carry count 14-4 while seeing a team-high 10 targets. He had 20 touches for 110 yards. A solid outing.
Newsflash: A.J. Green is good.
On the Ravens side, it looks like Dennis Pitta is back in a big way with 10 catches for 83 yards. He should be a TE1 in dynasty leagues.
Young Bengals linebacker Emmanuel Lamur led the team with 11 tackles and a half sack.

Daily Dynasty Update – July 9th

New Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak is expected to use tight end Dennis Pitta all over the place. It’s great news for Pitta dynasty owners who should see him return to 2012 form if he stays healthy.
Apparently, Vikings rookie Teddy Bridgewater is a lot further along than new offensive coordinator Norv Turner thought he would be. We fully expect Bridgewater to start games by the end of the year if not sooner and like his dynasty value.
Speaking of the Vikings, tight end Kyle Rudolph is looking at past Norv Turner tight ends for pointers. Rudolph is a good sleeper in dynasty leagues and should be targeted.

Daily Dynasty Update – June 9th

Look for the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger to use more no-huddle this season, resulting in more plays for the offense. With more plays per game, look for an all-around bump in Steelers offensive players.
Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton is practicing all four receiver spots this off-season which should utilize his value. He probably won’t line up on the outside where Reggie Wayne and Hakeem Nicks are expected to be but his long-term value is high, as possibly, the best receiver left in 2015.
Look for Dennis Pitta’s dynasty stock to shoot back up thanks to new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak. While calling plays in Houston, Kubiak utilized the tight end position more than most. With only Torrey Smith ahead of him for targets, look for Pitta to get his share.
Dynasty owners of Ace Sanders can probably move along now.

Daily Dynasty Update – April 4th

The Titans plan to have a committee and running back which isn’t good news for anyone. We fully expect Tennessee to draft a running back, most likely on Day 3 to compliment incumbent Shonn Greene and newly signed Dexter McCluster.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin is counting on running back David Wilson this year. Dynasty owners should be a little less optimistic. If there’s a taxi squad or injured reserve, Wilson should be placed on that for a while.
Former Texans tight end Owen Daniels has landed in Baltimore. He’ll be a decent backup option especially with Dennis Pitta suffering a major hip injury last season. It also officially opens the door for Ryan Griffin in Houston.
49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman should be ready by mid-season. It’s a devastating blow for both the 49ers and Bowman dynasty owners. Hopefully, both can survive the first half of 2014 without him.

Daily Dynasty Update – March 17th

The Ravens signed recently cut receiver Steve Smith over the weekend. It should be a non-impact move as Smith’s value in dynasty had sharply decreased and isn’t expected to increase in Baltimore. It’s also not expected to affect Torrey Smith or Dennis Pitta’s value.
At the opposite end of the impact spectrum, Emmanuel Sanders signed with the Broncos. His value should be at an all-time high heading in to 2014.
The Patriots signed receiver Brandon LaFell to a short-term deal. He’s expected to compete with Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins for catches. You shouldn’t expect much from LaFell in dynasty.
Speaking of Patriots receivers, they re-signed Julian Edelman. Edelman’s dynasty value wouldn’t be higher anywhere else and he should continue to be a WR2/3.
In free agent running back news, the Browns signed Ben Tate who will be penciled in as the starter heading in to 2014. Tate only signed a two-year deal so he has limited time to prove his worth.
In non-free agency news, Arian Foster has been medically cleared by his doctors after a season-ending back injury. He could be a decent buy-low candidate to pick off from those scared off by Foster’s injury history. You shouldn’t rely on him as your RB1 in dynasty but would make an excellent RB2.
Seahawks tight end Zach Miller re-worked his contract to stay with the team. Luke Willson dynasty owners might have to wait a little longer to cash in on the dynasty hold.

Daily Dynasty Update – March 8th

The Vikings re-signed quarterback Matt Cassel to a two-year deal, insuring him as a bridge quarterback. Not long ago, it seemed like none of the top QB prospects would be there at eight when the Vikings picked but with recent chatter, it’s entirely possible that one of Manziel, Bortles, or Bridgewater will be there.
Dynasty owners of Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta should have their patience pay off as he’s expected to be back at 100% before the season starts. Pitta put up TE1 numbers the season before his hip injury and should have no problem repeating that success once he’s healthy.
Saints running back Khiry Robinson is expected to handle a much bigger load in 2014 and, possibly, beyond. With Darren Sproles out, Pierre Thomas on his way, and Mark Ingram only under contract for one more year, Robinson is the best dynasty play in the Saints backfield (at the moment). Those that plucked him last year should be vindicated this year.
The Jets re-signed tight end Jeff Cumberland, leaving him as the starter with Kellen Winslow moving on. Cumberland hasn’t flashed any TE1 potential and the New York offense certainly doesn’t indicate anything like that happening. But he is a starter and could be a decent reserve in dynasty leagues.

Daily Dynasty Update – January 28th

New Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak expects tight end Dennis Pitta to be a big part of the offense in 2014. Any hope you had of getting Pitta on the cheap is now probably gone.
Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett had 8.5 sacks this season despite playing in a rotational basis and just 711 snaps. He’s playing on a one year deal and has earned the chance to test free agency again. Unless the market dries up like last year, an unlikely scenario now that Bennett has a good track record, chances are Bennett gets a bigger opportunity somewhere else. He’ll make an intriguing DL1/2 pick in 2014 dynasty leagues.
Eagles quarterback Matt Barkley heads into the off-season as the probable backup to Nick Foles. It’s some good news for folks that drafted Barkley with hopes in dynasty rookie drafts last year.
Saints running back Pierre Thomas is the most likely running back to be cut in New Orleans this off-season. It’s good and bad for Thomas since he could get the opportunity for more touches but also will miss being in one of the more explosive offenses in the league. Expect impressive second-year back Khiry Robinson to get more carries.

Daily Dynasty Update – January 23rd

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is set for groin surgery today. It’ll be the third straight off-season Peterson has gone under the knife but, as we’ve seen the last two years, it doesn’t seem to faze him. He’ll be ready for camp.
Expect the Giants to have a more up-tempo offense with new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. This points the arrow up for Eli, and anyone else in the Giants offense, in 2014 and beyond.
Expect more out of Zach Ertz in 2014 and beyond as he’ll have full camps and pre-seasons to get in a groove.
The Packers will give Brandon Bostick a look at tight end this off-season. His game is similar to incumbent Jermichael Finley’s with his athleticism and speed. Any tight end in that offense is worth a look. Bostick is young and if he has any ability to hold on to the ball, he’ll be an upgrade on Finley. Get him now if you can.
The Ravens will not re-sign tight end Ed Dickson who has been a major disappointment in dynasty circles. He entered the 2012 season as the starter only to see Dennis Pitta emerge. Then had a golden opportunity to bounce back after Pitta’s injury before the 2013 season only to see Baltimore sign re-tread Dallas Clark. Dickson’s days of contributing to your fantasy team are over.
The same will be said for Santonio Holmes of the Jets. Holmes has been an even bigger disappointment than Dickson where he was often injured and had his four lowest yardage seasons while in New York. Fun fact: not one of his seasons in New York was better than any of his four in Pittsburgh. Avoid in your dynasty leagues.
