- Add one more coach that won’t make it to 2014 in Mike Munchak. His refusal to clean house among the coaching staff, while admirable, cost him his job in the end. For dynasty owners, this will be a positive step as there’s little to be excited about with the current Titans makeup (Kendall Wright, aside).
- Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland looks like he’ll get one more year in Miami. For dynasty owners, it’s safe to avoid Miami players for the next year until a new GM is hired.
- The Lions looks to hire an offensive-minded coach, whether its Ken Whisenhunt or Jay Gruden. Either one would inherit a stacked offense that could benefit even more.

Dynasty Recap – Wild Card – 49ers escape Packers, 23-20
- 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick had another big day against the Packers, going 16 of 30 for 227 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. However, he did a lot of damage on the ground with 98 yards. If Kaepernick can keep putting up these kinds of numbers in the regular season, he’ll still be a QB1 prospect in dynasty leagues.
- Packers rookie running back Eddie Lacy capped off his rookie season with 81 yards on 21 carries. He also added two catches. Lacy had an impressive rookie year and should be a low-end RB1 prospect going forward.
- 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree had a huge game with eight catches for 125 yards. Crabtree showed no signs of the injury that kept him out most of the year and should return next year in top form. He’ll be back in San Francisco next year on a team-friendly deal and is a WR2 in his current environment. Be on the lookout for where he ends up in 2015.
- 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith led the team with 1.5 sacks to go with four tackles. Smith has had a unique year, racking up 8.5 sacks in just 11 games after missing five games due to rehab.
Dynasty Recap – Wild Card – Chargers upset Bengals, 27-10
- Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton had a game to forget, going 29 of 51 for 334 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and one fumble. Dalton’s never been a QB1 prospect in dynasty circles and this game just proved it, despite Cincinnati’s success this year. If you’re a Dalton owner, you might start looking at a trade.
- Bengals rookie running back Giovani Bernard ended his rookie year doing what he does best – catching the ball. He caught seven passes for 73 yards while adding 45 yards on the ground. Bernard is a legit RB2 prospect in dynasty.
- Bengals receiver Marvin Jones had a big day, catching eight passes on an amazing 12 targets for 130 yards. Jones will enter 2014 as the second receiver in Cincinnati and should be square on the WR3/4 radar in dynasty leagues.
- The Chargers didn’t do much in the air but leading the way was Ladarius Green, catching three passes (a 1/4 of Philip Rivers completions) for 34 yards and a touchdown. His stock will be sky-high heading in to 2014.
Dynasty Recap – Wild Card – Saints escape Eagle, 26-24
- Saints quarterback Drew Brees had a very average day, going 20 of 30 for 250 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Brees goes up against Seattle next week. This game does nothing to dispel the notion that Brees can’t put up his usual numbers outside of a dome.
- Eagles quarterback Nick Foles had another efficient day, going 23 of 33 for 195 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’ll be a QB1 in dynasty circles heading in to next season.
- Saints running back Mark Ingram picked up the slack with 97 rushing yards and a touchdown. Ingram is eligible to be cut before next season but games like this will help him stick around.
- Eagles receiver Riley Cooper led the Eagles with six catches for 68 yards and a touchdown. The free agent had quite the year with the racial slur controversy in the beginning but found his groove with Foles. It’ll be interesting to see if Philadelphia brings him back.
Dynasty Recap – Wild Card – Colts stun Chiefs, 45-44
- Both quarterbacks went off as Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith went 30 of 46 for 378 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. This game, and season, bought him at least one more year as the Kansas City starter.
- Meanwhile, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck went 29 of 45 for for 443 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. Admittedly, most of it was in garbage time and against the Chiefs second stringers, but it’s what Luck dynasty owners like to see.
- The real star yesterday was Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton who had 13 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns. It remains to see what his role will be next year but there’s no denying his talent. He’s a strong dynasty prospect heading in to 2014.
- Meanwhile, Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe had his best game all year with eight catches for 150 yards and a touchdown. Don’t be fooled though as Kansas City is still a run-first offense and Bowe will only be a year older next year.
- Kansas City linebacker Justin Houston had a sack in his return from injury. Houston is a big-play linebacker with low tackle numbers but potentially big sack numbers.
Daily Dynasty Update – January 2nd
- The Bears re-signed Jay Cutler for the next seven seasons. Cutler showed improvement with new coach Marc Trestman so should be a decent QB2 heading in to 2014. The other Bears skill positions should be viable for the foreseeable future.
- Titans running back Chris Johnson now sees what everyone else has – he probably won’t be back in Tennessee in 2014. Monitor where he goes but his days of being a work horse are probably over. Shonn Greene would be the starter in 2014, at the moment.
- Giants running back Andre Brown would like to come back to New York in 2014. He has some upside as the status of David Wilson is still up in the air. Brown isn’t flashy but would be a starting running back and a touchdown hog.
- Steelers rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones is expected to take one of the outside linebacker spots in 2014. Jones came on strong towards the end of the season and had nine tackles and two passes defended in the finale. Draft him as a potential LB2.
- In other linebacker news, Vikings linebacker Erin Henderson was popped again for DUI. It’s his second in the last two months and will likely be released because of them. He can be safely dropped heading in to 2014 and hopefully will get help.
- Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman could be out which would be music to a lot of people’s ears. The offense in 2013 was uneven and never established the run.
Daily Dynasty Update – December 31st
- Free agent linebacker Daryl Smith would like to return to Baltimore after filling the stat sheet in 2013. Playing like a LB1 with 123 tackles, five sacks and three interceptions, Smith held off rookie Arthur Brown to start every game. If Smith returns, he’ll be a productive LB for a at least 1-2 years.
- Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert will probably be with a new team next year. Get your dynasty rookie quarterback rankings ready.
- Speaking of the Jaguars, linebacker Paul Posluszny will most likely be with the team next year. Pos a great value in dynasty leagues with his advanced age but reliable puts up good tackle numbers.
- Texans tight end Owen Daniels probably won’t be back with Houston next year, opening up the job for Ryan Griffin. Griffin started showing flashes right at the end of the year and could be a surprise in 2014 with, hopefully, improved quarterback play.
Updated Dynasty Wide Receiver Rankings – December

- No changes at the top as the top seven stay the same: Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green, Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas, Julio Jones, Brandon Marshall, and Randall Cobb all stay the same.
- The big risers include Josh Gordon (8), Antonio Brown (14), and Alshon Jeffery (22). All had the skill it was just a matter of putting it together. There should be no doubt heading in to 2014.
- The only real drop was Marques Colston (47) which primarily is age. Any receiver in New Orleans is bound to be limited by the in-house competition.
Dynasty Recap – Week 17 – Eagles squeak by Cowboys, 24-22
- Eagles quarterback Nick Foles was his usual, efficient self going 17 of 26 for 261 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Foles could be a top-1o dynasty quarterback heading in to 2014.
- Eagles running back LeSean McCoy ran wild (again) with 131 yards on 27 carries. With his combination of age, skill, and opportunity, there’s simply no better option at running back in dynasty rankings.
- Cowboys tight end Jason Witten showed he had some fight left, catching 12 passes for 135 yards. Despite his age, Witten is still a top five tight end in dynasty rankings ahead of 2014.
- Cowboys defensive tackle Jason Hatcher had two more sacks to give him 11 on the year in a surprisingly good fantasy year. However, Hatcher will be 32 next year and the Cowboys scheme is up in the air. It would be best to avoid.
Dynasty Recap – Week 17 – 49ers edge Cardinals, 23-20
- 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick had his second 300-yard game of the season, going 21 of 34 for 310 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 24 yards rushing. Hopefully it’s just the momentum he needs heading in to 2014.
- Meanwhile, Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer went 28 of 49 for 407 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Palmer will be a low-end QB2 for the next year or two before hanging it up.
- Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald had six catches for 113 yards to end another disappointing season. Michael Floyd’s emergence contributed but you have to wonder if Fitz’s days of being a WR1 are over. It might be time to consider a trade package for Fitz.
- 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman capped his incredible season with 10 tackles, a sack, and an interception. Bowman filled the stat sheet all year and should be your top-rated linebacker heading in to 2014 dynasty leagues.
