Expect Mike Wallace to move around the line of scrimmage this season, including lining up in the slot. With a new, more aggressive offensive coordinator in town in Bill Lazor, and a year with Ryan Tannehill under his belt, the only place for Wallace to go is up.- Rookie Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon got some work in with the first team offense when Adrian Peterson took plays off. He showed impressive receiving ability and could get work this year on passing downs. He’ll be in the conversation for third-tier rookie running backs.
- Expect Cowboys tight end Jason Witten to keep playing every down this season. And with new offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, that should keep Witten among the top five in dynasty tight ends. It also will keep Gavin Escobar’s value limited.

- Change to the top five this month with Redskins tight end Jordan Reed entering at number five. Reed’s stock is up thanks to new coach Jay Gruden’s pass-first mentality. The four before him include Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, and Jordan Cameron.
- Up this month is Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar and Titans tight end Delanie Walker. Escobar should see more opportunities in Dallas with Jason Witten getting older. Delanie Walker is expected to see more targets in new coach Ken Whisenhunt’s offense. Walker is a decent buy-low candidate for 2014.
- Lions tight end Joseph Fauria dropped a bit thanks to the Lions re-signing of fellow tight end Brandon Pettigrew. Fauria should pass Pettigrew on the depth chart sometime this season. The other drop is Tampa’s new tight end Brandon Myers. Myers had a terrible stint in New York and isn’t expected to do much better in Tampa. Even at 39 he’s not a recommended buy.

- Top five is a consensus now with Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron, and Vernon Davis.
- A moderate riser this month is Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar. Jason Witten is a year older and the cap-strapped Cowboys can’t bring in better options in the receiving game.
- Fallers this month include Coby Fleener of the Colts. Until the Colts show a willingness to unleash the passing game, no tight end in that Indy offense is a safe bet. Another drop is Brandon Bostick of the Packers. Jermichael Finley could still come back but until the team officially anoints Bostick the heir apparent, he can’t be considered a sure thing.
Daily Dynasty Update – August 13th
At least it’s not Monday?
- The injury bug hit Jamaal Charles on Monday. He went down with a foot sprain but looks fine. The fantasy world probably won’t be comfortable until he sees game action.
- Receiver DeSean Jackson looks like his old self in Philly camp. Currently ranked 44th in dynasty ranks, Jackson may be a tad undervalued at this point. The hope is to be a regular WR3 with a WR2 as his ceiling.
- Second year receiver T.Y. Hilton says the game is slowing down for him. After a good pre-season opener, Hilton is in prime position to succeed this year and in the future with Andrew Luck at quarterback and Reggie Wayne close to retirement. Grab Hilton if he’s available.
- Second year tight end Ladarius Green is looking good in San Diego. With Antonio Gates at 33, Green is in a prime position to take over the starting role but will need to have a good season.
- Rookie tight end Gavin Escobar has been quiet so far in Dallas. So far, he grades out as the worst blocking tight end this pre-season, according to Pro Football Focus. Not exactly a recipe for success. Escobar is no more than a taxi squad candidate at this point. He’d be even more valuable if Jason Witten is on your roster.
- Third year receiver Jon Baldwin dropped a couple of passes during practice Sunday and has yet to stand out in Kansas City’s camp. It’s not inconceivable to imagine this might be Baldwin’s last chance to validate his first round status. Andy Reid does like to throw it around so Baldwin will have his chance.
Daily Dynasty Update – August 5th
Finally, football is back.
- From last night’s game, Lamar Miller looked solid (besides the botched hand off) with two runs of 10 and 11 yards. Miller is rated 13th in the latest running back ranks.
- Detroit running back Reggie Bush has been everything he was supposed to be – catching balls and getting top-line speed very quickly. Reggie is a solid RB2 at his current 20th ranking. But if you built a strong dynasty team around him, he could be a low-end RB1 in PPR leagues.
- Eddie Lacy looked good in Green Bay’s scrimmage. He’s set up for a lot of goal-line work as a RB2 in their high powered offense. Meanwhile, Johnathan Franklin did not impress so temper your expectations.
- Chicago’s Alshon Jeffery has firmly established himself as the #2 in Chicago. If Cutler gets up to 600 pass attempts, he’ll need to throw to someone else besides Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte. Plus, Brandon Marshall isn’t getting any younger at 29.
- Tennessee rookie receiver Justin Hunter had two drops in practice. Hunter is still only a taxi-squad level prospect until he can be reliable.
- Cincy rookie tight end Tyler Eifert made the most of AJ Green sitting out of practice. Eifert needs to be the first rookie tight end off your board and could be a top 10 pick in dynasty leagues.
- On the flip side, Dallas rookie tight end Gavin Escobar has done nothing to stand out. Escobar was entering a good situation with Dallas’ pass-happy offense and learning from one of the best tight ends in history. Use caution.
- Jacksonville rookie receiver Ace Sanders caught a couple of first downs in practice. We looked at Sanders in-dept here.
