Dynasty Update – Week 1 – Cardinals 31, Saints 19

Cardinals

Quarterback Carson Palmer had a huge day with 307 yards and three touchdowns. He should be a QB2 for as long as he’s around.
The Cardinals went with a committee at running back but it should be apparent that Andre Ellington is the better option over re-tread Chris Johnson. Ellington had 69 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown before spraining his PCL. Johnson had only 37 yards on 10 carries.
In the receiving game, veteran Larry Fitzgerald led the way with six catches and 87 yards. He could end up at WR3-4 value in dynasty rankings.
Safety Tryann Mathieu had a great game with eight tackles and three passes defended. He’s a high upside DB1 in IDP dynasty leagues.

Saints

Quarterback Drew Brees had a very typical game with 355 yards passing and a touchdown and interception. Despite the loss of Jimmy Graham, it looks like Brees will still put up gaudy passing numbers. He’s a mid-tier QB1 in dynasty rankings.
Running back Mark Ingram had a horrible game on the ground with just 24 yards rushing. However, he did haul in eight catches for 98 yards. He’ll need to boost his rushing yardage as CJ Spiller will take over the passing back role when he returns.

Dynasty Recap – Week 1 – Jets sloppily beat Raiders, 19-14

Jets quarterback Geno Smith had an up and down day going 23 of 28 for 221 yards, a touchdown, an interception and a lost fumble. It’s looking more and more like that’s what a typical Geno Smith day will look like. He can be downgraded in dynasty.
The Jets running game was split with Chris Ivory going for 10 and 102 yards (and a touchdown) and Chris Johnson getting 13 carries for 68 yards. Johnson added five catches for 23 points and a touchdown. Johnson would be the better play in PPR leagues.
Eric Decker left no doubt about who the top receiver is in New York with five catches for 74 yards and led the team in targets.
A bright spot for the Raiders was on the IDP side with linebacker Sio Moore racking up 13 tackles and a sack. With those numbers, Moore could be a LB2 in dynasty leagues.

Daily Dynasty Update – July 29th

Giants rookie Odell Beckham continues to battle a hamstring injury that will keep him out another week. Hamstring injuries tend to linger so its something to keep an eye on. ODB’s rookie draft stock could start moving downward.
Packers tight end Colt Lyerla has been relegated to the scout team in Green Bay. It doesn’t bode well for his prospects to break through the Packers tight end competition and his dynasty prospects look bleak.
Don’t get too excited Chris Johnson-owners: Jets running back Chris Ivory is still expected to handle goal-line carries. It was to be expected and solidifies Johnson’s value as no higher than a RB2 in PPR leagues.

Daily Dynasty Update – July 24th

Jets running back Chris Ivory sat out with a slight hamstring injury today. Hopefully it won’t be as severe as previous hamstring injuries Ivory has had. Either way, we still like Chris Johnson as the dynasty running back to own in dynasty leagues.
Browns rookie running back Terrance West is back in action after spending a day on the NFI list. He’s looking more and more like the running back to own in dynasty circles.
Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart injured his hamstring (surprise!) and will be out a couple of weeks. So it goes.
Giants tight end Adrien Robinson was listed as the fifth tight end on the depth chart to start camp. I didn’t know teams had five tight ends in camp. Either way, Robinson is not a dynasty asset.

Daily Dynasty Update – July 14th

The Bills claim that C.J. Spiller should get 20 touches a game. Stop me if you’ve heard that before. With the addition of Bryce Brown thanks for a trade involving a 4th round pick, it’s hard to imagine Brown not seeing some playing time.
Temper your Chris Johnson expectations as New York is widely assumed to use a committee approach. Johnson will never approach workhorse status again but could be a decent pickup in PPR leagues.
Get your final bids in for either Patriots receiver Josh Boyce or Kenbrell Thompkins. They’re battling for the last receiver spot in New England.

Daily Dynasty Update – June 26th

While Packers running back Eddie Lacy made a great impression his rookie year (as noted yesterday), Green Bay would like to limit his touches to keep him fresh. It’s good and bad for dynasty owners of Lacy as they’d like him to last but still want to rookie-level production he produced. In the end, having Lacy be effective for longer is the better choice.
Anyone expecting a bounce back year from Jets running back Chris Johnson should probably reel those expectations in. He will not be a workhorse this year or any other.
Rookie receiver John Brown is making a good impression in Arizona where the third receiver spot could be valuable. With an aging Larry Fitzgerald, it’s also conceivable that Brown could see more action down the road.

Daily Dynasty Update – May 23rd

New Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson plans on using running back Giovani Bernard more in the slot this season. This is just another reason why Bernard dynasty owners shouldn’t worry about rookie Jeremy Hill.
New Jets running back Chris Johnson will probably be held out of OTA’s but should be ready to go for the beginning of 2014. Johnson’s dynasty stock has been rapidly declining since his 2,000 yard season and isn’t expected to get better in New York. He’s now in a timeshare with Chris Ivory with a ceiling of a RB3.
Good news for Aaron Dobson, Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman dynasty owners as the Patriots are expected to move away from ’12’ alignments on offense and use more receivers. This is great news, especially for the younger Dobson.

Daily Dynasty Update – April 18th

New Jets running back Chris Johnson understands he won’t be a work horse and will split carries with Chris Ivory. His dynasty stock was already slipping and dropping in to a time share won’t help matters. His days of being a top-end dynasty running back are about done.
Texans linebacker Brian Cushing appears to be 100% heading in to 2014. Cushing has had some injury issues over the past few years but could still bounce back as a LB1 if he stays healthy.
Don’t look for Giants third stringer Ryan Nassib to move up the depth chart or your dynasty rankings any time soon. With Josh Freeman now the backup, Nassib has little upside.
Another player that won’t move up dynasty rankings much is running back LaMichael James. James has nowhere to go in San Francisco behind Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and now Marcus Lattimore.

Daily Dynasty Update – April 3rd

Don’t expect running back Chris Johnson back in Tennessee next year. His dynasty stock will be determined by his landing spot but, for now, Shonn Greene appears to be the starter. However, don’t be surprised if the Titans spend a day two or three pick on a running back.
The Packers are expected to run more this season which is great news for Eddie Lacy going forward. It may ding Aaron Rodgers value a little bit but he’ll still be a top-tier option for dynasty quarterbacks.
Expect more production from Seahawks running back Christine Michael this season. Michael was a hot commodity in dynasty drafts last year and will continue to have a ton of potential.
Donald Brown dynasty owners shouldn’t expect much this season as he’s only expected to get 5-10 touches per game. The backfield is pretty crowded in San Diego this season so it’ll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Daily Dynasty Update – January 27th

Titans running back Chris Johnson will have surgery to have a meniscus tear repaired. Johnson tore it early in the season and played hobbled. Hopefully he can return to 100% in 2014 and bounce back. Whether that’s in Tennessee is another question. He’s low on dynasty radars.
(Former) Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez swears this is it for him. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to take him with your last pick in dynasty drafts, juuuuuust in case.
Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola could be cut this off-season, clearing the way for Julian Edelman to stick around. In PPR leagues, Edelman borders on WR1 status but only in New England. Stay tuned.
The Browns will pay a roster bonus to Brian Hoyer in March, making it more likely he’s on the team to start the season. Hoyer could be in-line for a surprise season if he’s given the chance to start, whether the Browns pick a quarterback early or not.
