Updated Dynasty Quarterback Rankings – June 2014

Top five remains the same with Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Matt Stafford, and Drew Brees.
Only real riser this month was Philip Rivers from 17th to 14th. He will have receiver Malcolm Floyd back and another year or Keenan Allen. Rivers is more a high-end QB2 instead of a low-tier QB1.
Rookie Blake Bortles drops from 15 to 20. Bortles may be more polarizing than Johnny Manziel as far as what his value will ultimately be. He probably won’t go lower than the second round in dynasty rookie drafts.

Daily Dynasty Update – June 2nd

Recent estimates have Peyton Manning playing three more years, which is music to dynasty owners ears. Until he shows otherwise, Manning should be treated as a top quarterback in dynasty leagues.
In the wake of Daryl Washington’s impending suspension, it looks like Larry Foote will take over his role in the Cardinals defense. Foote may be a decent buy for 2014 but not beyond.
LaGarrette Blount figures to get 6-8 carries a game in Pittsburgh. This will have little-to-no effect on Le’Veon Bell’s status.
Marqise Lee looks to have a better shot at starting early, practicing in the ‘Z’ position. It was Justin Blackmon’s old spot and has produced nicely when there’s talent manning the position. Lee looks to have a ceiling of a late first-rounder in rookie dynasty drafts.

Daily Dynasty Update – May 31st

Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington will be suspended for the entire 2014 season. Time to move on if you have Washington in dynasty leagues.
The Giants used three-wide sets in OTA’s, setting up rookie Odell Beckham to see a lot of action early on. He could challenge for the first rookie off the board in dynasty drafts behind Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans.
In other Giants news, they cut quarterback Josh Freeman leaving Ryan Nassib as the primary backup behind Eli Manning. Freeman likely won’t latch on with another team and Nassib, for now, is someone to look at for Manning owners.
Redskins rookie Lache Seastrunk could see the practice squad this year so don’t be in a rush to snatch him on draft day. There’s a crowded backfield in Washington and Seastrunk is pretty low on the totem pole.

Daily Dynasty Update – May 30th

The Bucs have all but anointed rookie Charles Sims as their third down back, taking some of the load off Doug Martin. Martin will still be a RB1 but probably isn’t in the top-tier as many thought he could be.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce isn’t participating in OTA’s and there’s currently no timetable for his return. Kelce could be a break out candidate if he ever sees the field. He’s still a buy for me.
With the news of Vernon Davis holding out, at least initially, it should get more work in for second year tight end Vance McDonald. McDonald will be able to show what he has which could lead to more playing time.
Eagles running back Darren Sproles should get 6-8 touches per game in the up-tempo Philadelphia offense. However, Sproles will be 31 and there’s a lot of touches to go around. His dynasty value is extremely low.
Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is still learning the new offense in Houston. New coach Bill O’ Brien will probably utitlize the team’s strength which is in the running game. We don’t expect a big leap from Hopkins unless Andre Johnson is shipped out.
Initial thoughts had Anthony Hitchens being first up to replace Dallas linebacker Sean Lee in the middle but now it could be second-year linebacker DeVonte Holloman. It’s a fluid situation and definitely one to monitor.

Daily Dynasty Update – May 29th

Lions running back Joique Bell is still out, recovering from off-season surgery. Bell was going to be a hot dynasty commodity this year with a new contract and increase playing time.
Steelers receiver Markus Wheaton opened camp as the starter across Antonio Brown. The move was expected but some are predicting rookie Martavis Bryant could unseat Wheaton before the season starts. While Bryant is a big target, he’s still pretty raw. If Wheaton plays well early, he’ll have a stranglehold on the job.
In other receiver news, Marquess Wilson opened camp as the third receiver in the Bears three-wide sets. Wilson has a ton of potential and is a good dynasty prospect to have. He’s first in-line should either Alshon Jeffery or Brandon Marshall go down.
49ers running back Marcus Lattimore took handoffs at OTA’s but not at full speed. There just hasn’t been any good news on the Lattimore-front lately.
Expect the suspension for Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington to be lengthy. Washington has all the talent in the world but can’t seem to stay out of trouble. I would trade him for what you can.

Daily Dynasty Update – May 28th

With the news of Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee tearing his other ACL, Dallas will probably be without his services for a full year. This means rookie linebacker Anthony Hitchens will be a hot commodity in camp.
There’s no waiting on Ryan Shazier in Pittsburgh as he’s already practicing with the first team. He’ll border on the first round in IDP rookie drafts.
Despite hip surgery in the off-season, Seahawks Kam Chancellor is expected to be back for the 2014 season. Chanchellor doesn’t get nearly as much attention as the other members of the Seattle secondary but he’s quietly been a reliable DB1/DB2, hovering around 100 tackles a year over the last three years.
Some welcome news from Arizona where coach Bruce Arians finally concedes what we all knew when he said Andre Ellington was a #1 back. He also said he looks to get him 25 carries a game. Ellington-owners can only hope.
Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis opened camp behind Giovani Bernard and rookie Jeremy Hill on the Bengals depth chart. If Hill plays well, he could be had in the second round of rookie drafts.
Ravens rookie running back Lorenzo Taliaferro was arrested over the holiday. Taliaferro and Ray Rice’s issues have not looked good for the Ravens. For fantasy purposes, Bernard Pierce may be one of the only running backs left to start the season.

Daily Dynasty Update – May 27th

Credit Mike Vick for saying the right things as he re-iterated that the quarterback job is Geno Smith’s to lose. With upgraded weapons, whoever ends up taking snaps could be a decent QB2 in 2014.
It’s possible Shonn Greene dynasty owners could be in for a rude awakening if Greene is cut this off-season. He’s still recovering from a knee injury and the Titans have plenty of other, albeit average, options. But why keep spinning your tires on a washed up veteran? A Greene cut would also catapult Bishop Sankey’s dynasty value to at least the third overall pick, if not higher.
A name to watch in training camp is backup chiefs tight end Demetrius Harris. Another converted basketball player, Harris has the skills to be a ‘move’ tight end behind Travis Kelce. Additionally, Kelce is coming off microfracture surgery so his recovery isn’t guaranteed.

Ravens running back Ray Rice is expected to be suspended multiple games to start the season for an ugly incident with his wife this season.
Redskins receiver Leonard Hankerson may not be ready until August due to ACL surgery. He’s no higher than fourth on the depth chart so, for dynasty purposes, it’s probably ok to let him go.
Lions receiver Ryan Broyles participated in OTA’s this week and looks like he’s almost completed healed from an Achilles injury. His ceiling is no higher than 3rd on the Lions depth chart but is someone worth monitoring in that offense.
Steelers receiver Markus Wheaton is expected to be the starter to open the season opposite Antonio Brown even with the drafting of Martavis Bryant. Wheaton had a lot of dynasty value before last season but was injured most of the year. He won’t have a lot of margin for error this year.

With Josh Gordon dropping out of the top five, it makes room for Demaryius Thomas. The others include Calvin, A.J., Dez, and Julio.
Top rookies include Sammy Watkins at 12; Mike Evans at 16; Brandin Cooks at 27; Jordan Matthews at 32; Odell Beckham at 34.
Justin Blackmon drops from 22 to 31 (and probably further thanks to recent activity); Rueben Randle from 29 to 37 thanks to the drafting of ODB; Markus Wheaton from 40 to 51 thanks to the drafting of rookie Martavius Bryant; Dwayne Bowe from 39 to 53.
