2015 NFL Draft – 17th Overall Pick – San Francisco Drafts Arik Armstead

In the first pick of the post-Harbaugh era, the 49ers take edge rusher Arik Armstead from Oregon.

A physical freak at 6’7″, Armstead is still so raw that he’ll need plenty of work and mentoring and won’t start right away. He stands up too often and just wasn’t very productive in college. However, being surrounded by talented linebackers like NaVorro Bowman and Aldon Smith should help the process. If he can realize his potential, him and Smith will bookend a super imposing edge rush duo.

For IDP purposes, his ceiling is comparable to Smith as a sack specialist who will never rack up many tackles.

Dynasty Impact – San Francisco 49ers select Jimmie Ward, S

wardDynasty Impact: Ward is a well-rounded safety that can help against the run and pass. Has great hands that could rack up interceptions in IDP leagues. Undersized but has a great motor. However, there’s no place for him now with Antoine Bethea and Eric Reid manning both safety positions. Won’t have much of an IDP effect his first year.

Dynasty Recap – Week 4 – 49ers bounce back against Rams, 35-11

  • San Francisco finally went back to Frank Gore and, lo and behold, it worked! He went off for 153 yards. It’s hard to see Gore not being around to see his contract through 2014. Marcus Lattimore dynasty owners might have to wait.
  • Vernon Davis didn’t have a spectacular night but still caught a touchdown. It continues to boggle the mind that the 49ers don’t utilize him more in the passing game. It also doesn’t bode well for the chances of young tight ends Vance McDonald and Chris Harper to be productive under the current regime.
  • Rams quarterback Sam Bradford is going to pass the ball. A lot. He had 41 attempts last night with four receivers getting eight targets or more. Now, if they could just catch them…
  • On the flip side, the Rams will NOT be running the ball this year. See our report in the daily dynasty update.
  • 49ers linebacker Michael Wilhoite stepped in for Patrick Willis last night and had seven tackles. With the 49ers ability to pick up linebackers and develop them into IDP studs, keep an eye on Wilhoite.

Dynasty Recap – Week 3 – Colts dominate 49ers, 27-7

  • It wasn’t pretty for 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. He finished with 150 yards and one interception. If there were ever a time to buy low, it’d be now.
  • Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton saw as many targets as Darrius Heyward-Bey (4-5). He still hasn’t been consistent but is the clear long-term answer for Indianapolis. See what’s out there to potentially buy low.
  • Colts linebacker Jerrell Freeman filled up the stat sheet with eight tackles, a sack, a tackle for a loss and a forced fumble. Freeman is quietly one of the more underrated big play linebackers in dynasty circles.
