The top five remains the same with Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron, and Jordan Reed.
Rookies new to the list include: Eric Ebron at 8; Austin Seferian-Jenkins at 14; Jace Amaro at 17; Troy Niklas at 26; Colt Lyerla at 38; C.J. Fiedorowicz at 40; and Richard Rodgers at 45.
Some of the biggest drops this month include Tim Wright from 25 to 35 and Joseph Fauria from 28 to 41. Both had their respective teams draft tight ends pretty high which pushed them down the depth chart.

Geno Smith is heading in to training camp as the starting quarterback for the Jets. How long that will last remains to be seen with Mike Vick right behind him and Rex Ryan’s job on the line. Neither one are ideal dynasty buys – Smith because of his lack of talent and Vick because of his age.
Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks apparently played through a thumb injury last season that required him to be in a cast for a month this off-season. Despite that, he was still a top-20 IDPer and should stay there now that he’s healthy.
Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski isn’t sure if he’ll be ready for the season after tearing his ACL in December. The news shouldn’t surprise anyone and further enhances my belief that he’d be a decent sell candidate. You just don’t know what you’re getting or when you get it.
The Jaguars are expected to make Toby Gerhart a work horse this season. His role is set up a lot like Michael Turner’s in Atlanta where current Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell used to be.
49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman isn’t expected to be ready for Week 1 and should be considered more likely to be back in the middle of the season. Bowman might be a decent buy-low candidate for a team that’s in win-now mode.

Daily Dynasty Update – April 25th

The Patriots are hopeful that tight end Rob Gronkowski will be ready for week one. He isn’t practicing just yet so don’t hold your breath. Personally, I’d see what Gronks value is and move on. This article on Gronk’s injury history, and future, from Grantland was very accurate.
In other tight end news, Dwayne Allen is good to go for 2014. Colby Fleener failed to run away with the job last season so Allen’s chances are high for a productive 2014.
Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw isn’t quite 100% yet but he’s still in line to contribute in Indy this season. However, with his injury history and the possibility that the Colts draft a running back, Bradshaw’s dynasty value is nil.
Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin appears to be good to go. Maclin sat out all of 2013 with an injury but with DeSean Jackson in Washington, he becomes the primary target in a high-powered offense. His stock will only go up from now until draft day.
In other Eagles news, running back Chris Polk had major shoulder surgery which could prevent the team from trading or cutting Bryce Brown just yet.

Daily Dynasty Update – April 15th

As if we needed more confirmation, Lions running backs Reggie Bush and Joique Bell will split time. Bell is the better dynasty play due to his age and better overall ability. Target Bell for 2014 and beyond.
Local Redskins beat writers are predicting a big season for linebacker Brian Orakpo thanks to a new coaching staff and better health. Orakpo is one of the league’s best sack specialists and should be productive in 2014 dynasty leagues. Beyond that remains to be seen.
Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is running again and should be good to go for 2014. Gronk still mans the second position in dynasty tight end rankings and could be a decent buy-low candidate.
In other Patriots news, quarterback Ryan Mallett is not expected back in New England next year. This could either hurt or help his dynasty stock if he signs on somewhere to start.

Change to the top five this month with Redskins tight end Jordan Reed entering at number five. Reed’s stock is up thanks to new coach Jay Gruden’s pass-first mentality. The four before him include Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, and Jordan Cameron.
Up this month is Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar and Titans tight end Delanie Walker. Escobar should see more opportunities in Dallas with Jason Witten getting older. Delanie Walker is expected to see more targets in new coach Ken Whisenhunt’s offense. Walker is a decent buy-low candidate for 2014.
Lions tight end Joseph Fauria dropped a bit thanks to the Lions re-signing of fellow tight end Brandon Pettigrew. Fauria should pass Pettigrew on the depth chart sometime this season. The other drop is Tampa’s new tight end Brandon Myers. Myers had a terrible stint in New York and isn’t expected to do much better in Tampa. Even at 39 he’s not a recommended buy.

Top six remains the same with Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron, Vernon Davis and Jordan Reed at the top.
Big risers this update include Vance McDonald of the 49ers. Vernon Davis is now 30 years old and McDonald is the current candidate to replace him; same goes for McDonald’s Rice teammate Luke Willson in Seattle, playing behind now-28-year-old Zach Miller; the last big riser is Atlanta’s Levine Toilolo. With Tony Gonzalez’ retirement (almost) official, Toilolo steps in as the starter in a high-powered offense.
The big drops this update include the previously mentioned Miller; the Eagles Brent Celek, 29, who will be giving more snaps to Zach Ertz; the other big drop includes Jacksonville’s Marcedes Lewis, who could be a decent buy-low candidate if Jacksonville draft’s a quarterback in May.
The new entries to the rankings include Houston’s Ryan Griffin, who immediately looks appealing thanks to Owen Daniels’ release; and the Giants Adrien Robinson who is currently the starter in New York thanks to Brandon Myers signing in Tampa.

Top five is a consensus now with Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron, and Vernon Davis.
A moderate riser this month is Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar. Jason Witten is a year older and the cap-strapped Cowboys can’t bring in better options in the receiving game.
Fallers this month include Coby Fleener of the Colts. Until the Colts show a willingness to unleash the passing game, no tight end in that Indy offense is a safe bet. Another drop is Brandon Bostick of the Packers. Jermichael Finley could still come back but until the team officially anoints Bostick the heir apparent, he can’t be considered a sure thing.

No big shakes in the top five – Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron, and Vernon Davis are all there. These rankings should hold barring significant injury news on Gronk.
The big risers this month include Tim Wright from Tampa Bay, Delanie Walker from Tennessee, Brandon Bostick from Green Bay, and Mychal Rivera from Oakland. With the exception of Walker, all are young and are expected to see even more action in 2014. Bostick would be the guy that most leagues shouldn’t know about quite yet so get him if you can.
The big drops include Jared Cook of the Rams, Antonio Gates from San Diego, Brandon Pettigrew, who is set to be a free agent, Fred Davis, also set to be a free agent, and the ‘retiring’ Tony Gonzalez. Cook just fell off a cliff after a promising season opener. The Rams are expected to add even more weapons, diminishing Cook’s role. Brandon Pettigrew has had all the opportunity in the world with Detroit’s high-octane attack but hasn’t produced. Chances are low he’ll suddenly break out on another team. Fred Davis hasn’t produce since his breakout year three years ago. Now rankings are taking in to account Tony Gonzalez’ retirement. But I won’t believe it until I see it. If you can snag Gonzalez for a late round pick in your draft, or something equivalent, do it.

Updated Dynasty Tight End Rankings – January 2014, 2.0

We have a new top five with Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski (injuries aside), new #3 Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron, and Vernon Davis rounding it out.
Next up on the list is now second-year Washington tight end Jordan Reed, making a big leap from ninth to sixth. Other big risers include fellow second-year tight end Ladarius Green (from 16th to 11th) who will, presumably, take on a bigger role in San Diego next year. Also be on the lookout for Philadelphia’s Zach Ertz (from 22nd to 16th) who had three of his four biggest yardage games in the last five games of the season. Ertz has more talent than any other tight end on the Eagles roster and should be utilized more.
Dropping this time is Packers tight end Jermichael Finley from 14th to 18th due to the questions about his health and where he’ll end up next season. Other drops include the Giants Brandon Myers, who possibly had the most disappointing fantasy season in the tight end category, and Washington’s Fred Davis who was unseated by the previously mentioned Reed. Neither one shows bounce-back potential in 2014.

Daily Dynasty Update – December 18th

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will have his eighth surgery, this one to repair his torn ACL/MCL. Gronk is as good as it gets at tight end but the injuries have piled up quick for the 24-year old. He’s the epitome of boom-or-bust.
Lions quarterback Matt Stafford was never in danger of being pulled. In fact, it’s a joke it was even brought up. He’s still a QB1 in dynasty leagues but monitor the coaching change, if any, in Detroit for a new scheme.
The Raiders coaches apparently have moved on from Terrelle Pryor. It’s odd as Pryor seemed to perform well while learning on the fly. He’ll be a non-factor in dynasty leagues next year.
The Steelers may be ready to move on from linebacker LaMarr Woodley in the off-season. He carries a big price tag, has been injured a lot, and will be 29 entering the 2014 season. The Steelers seemingly have a backup plan with Jason Worilds and Jarvis Jones manning the outside.
