With the 31st overall pick, the Saints drafted linebacker Stephone Anthony.
Anthony has a big frame for an inside linebacker but proved he could come through at the combine. Could take the starting job immediately after the Saints cut Curtis Lofton. If so, he’ll be the first defensive player taken in dynasty IDP leagues where he should rack up the tackles in the middle while defending the pass.
The Saints keep improving their offensive line with the selection of Peat with the 13th pick.
Peat is huge at 6’7″ and is polished enough to start immediately. He should begin his career at right tackle but could potentially end up at left tackle. The Saints offensive line already ranked 11th last year but with Peat and Max Unger, who came over in a trade for Jimmy Graham, but should be solidified giving Drew Brees and the rest of the offensive time to operate.
Dynasty Impact: After trading up, the Saints get Brandin Cooks and his 4.33-speed. Putting him in the slot in that offense will lead to big numbers for Cooks right away and should be the second receiver off the board in dynasty rookie drafts. For Drew Brees, the Saints inject some youth in the receiving corps which should help sustain his crazy fantasy numbers. Cooks will be a high pick in 2014.
