Updated Dynasty Running Back Rankings – January 2014

  • The top two remain the same as the Eagles LeSean McCoy takes the top spot with Jamaal Charles of the chiefs not far behind.
  • After that, rookies are making the most noise with the Packers Eddie Lacy shooting up to 4th from 10th. He proved he could carry the load in Aaron Rodgers absence. The Rams Zac Stacy enters the top ten after bursting on the scene halfway through the season. He’ll be the lead back in St. Louis in 2014. The Steelers Le’Veon Bell also moved up to 13th from 17th. He might be the focal point of Pittsburgh’s offense next season.
  • The big drops include the Ravens Ray Rice dropping from 8th to 14th largely due to his steep production drop this season. The hope is this season is an anomaly for Rice and not the norm. Colts running back Trent Richardson continues his fall from 12th to 17th. Don’t expect that to be the end for Richardson as I predict he’ll drop even further as the off-season goes on. Lions running back Reggie Bush also had a drop thanks to late season injuries and backup Joique Bell‘s emergence as a solid contributor.

Dynasty Recap – Week 17 – Eagles squeak by Cowboys, 24-22

  • Eagles quarterback Nick Foles was his usual, efficient self going 17 of 26 for 261 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Foles could be a top-1o dynasty quarterback heading in to 2014.
  • Eagles running back LeSean McCoy ran wild (again) with 131 yards on 27 carries. With his combination of age, skill, and opportunity, there’s simply no better option at running back in dynasty rankings.
  • Cowboys tight end Jason Witten showed he had some fight left, catching 12 passes for 135 yards. Despite his age, Witten is still a top five tight end in dynasty rankings ahead of 2014.
  • Cowboys defensive tackle Jason Hatcher had two more sacks to give him 11 on the year in a surprisingly good fantasy year. However, Hatcher will be 32 next year and the Cowboys scheme is up in the air. It would be best to avoid.

  • The top four remain the same with LeSean McCoy, Jamaal Charles, Adrian Peterson and Doug Martin. Shouldn’t be much change in the 2014 dynasty running back rankings either.
  • The biggest riser this month were rookies Giovani Bernard (5) of Cincinnati and Zac Stacy (20) of the Rams along with New England pass specialist Shane Vereen (16). Both rookies were solid contributors all year and should have even more success in 2014 with more opportunities and earlier playing time. Vereen, with a whole year under his belt, should be a PPR monster.
  • The drop continues to include Trent Richardson (12) who should be even lower heading in to 2014. Easily the year’s biggest disappointment.

Dynasty Recap – Week 16 – Eagles blow out Bears, 54-11

  • Eagles quarterback Nick Foles was extremely efficient, going 21 of 25 for 230 yards and two touchdowns. He’s looking like a QB1 in dynasty leagues heading in to 2014.
  • Eagles running back LeSean McCoy ran wild with 133 yards on just 18 carries and two touchdowns. He also added six catches for 29 yards. It’s been a race all year for fantasy MVP between McCoy and Jamaal Charles. Both are at the top of the dynasty charts.
  • The game got so out of hand the Eagles backup running back Bryce Brown had 115 yards on just nine carries. Just this week we covered Brown’s disappointing year but this game may restore faith in his dynasty prospects.
  • Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks was an animal with five tackles and two sacks. He now has 94 tackles and four sacks on the year. Kendricks is just 23 and should be a consistent dynasty produce for many years to come.

Dynasty Recap – Week 14 – Eagles beat Lions, 34-20

  • It was the LeSean McCoy show as he ran amok in the snow. McCoy went off for 217 yards on 29 carries and two touchdowns. This season should leave little doubt as to who is the top dynasty running back.
  • Lions running back Joique Bell also took advantage of the snow, along with a last-minute injury to Reggie Bush to have 69 yards rushing to go along with four catches and 58 yards. He also added a touchdown. Bell is a must-have handcuff as he’s proven he can handle the load and Bush just can’t seem to stay healthy.
  • Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch had 10 more tackles to give him 107 on the year. It’s his fifth straight season of 100+ tackles. Tulloch is in the prime of his career and isn’t going anywhere soon.

Dynasty Recap – Week 13 – Eagles escape Cardinals, 24-21

  • Eagles quarterback Nick Foles had another great game, going 21 of 34 for 237 yards and three more touchdowns with zero interceptions. There’s no doubt who will be the starter next year in Philadelphia.
  • Eagles running back LeSean McCoy had 79 yards rushing on 19 carries to go along with five catches and 36 yards. McCoy is averaging over 4+ YPC with Foles at quarterback compared to 5+ with Michael Vick but as long as McCoy doesn’t fall below that 4.0 number, it won’t be a problem.
  • Cardinals receiver Michael Floyd continues to establish himself as the rightful heir to Larry Fitzgerald whether that’s next year or beyond. Floyd led the team with 10 targets, five catches for 99 yards and a touchdown.
  • Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby continues his stellar play with nine tackles, two sacks and a pass defended. Originally signed to fill in for Daryl Washington, Dansby has played too well to get off the field. It’ll be interesting to see where he goes next year as he’s only playing on a one year deal.

Daily Dynasty Update – November 30th

  • Eagles running back LeSean McCoy is on pace for a career-high in touches. That’s music to re-draft owners of McCoy but not dynasty leaguers. It’ll be close to 1,000 touches in the last three years for McCoy. Dynasty leaguers need to be cautious with McCoy in the near future.
  • Cowboys running back Lance Dunbar will be out for the season after a knee injury suffered in the  Thanksgiving day game. Dunbar, averaging 5.0 YPC this season, was doing well as the change-of-pace back behind DeMarco Murray. Dunbar faces rookie Joseph Randle for that role in 2014 along with any other options the Jerry Jones regime brings in.
  • The Bills are encouraging rookie quarterback E.J. Manual to let it loose in the passing game. They likely want to see what they have at quarterback and sooner rather than later. The same could be said for dynasty league owners of Manual.

Dynasty Fantasy Football – Week 10 – Eagles upend Packers, 27-13

  • Eagles quarterback Nick Foles had another efficient day going 12 of 18 for 228 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. There’s little doubt Foles will be the starter heading into 2014 with this kind of play. He has the weapons to be successful.
  • Eagles running back LeSean McCoy had a great day with 155 yards rushing on 25 carries. With Foles spreading the offense, it will open up holes for McCoy where he should be a top running back in dynasty leagues for 3-5 years.
  • Packers receiver Jarrett Boykin had 112 yards on eight catches where he was the top target on the day. Boykin is a name to watch next year when James Jones’ contract is up.
  • Packers rookie defensive end Datone Jones had two sacks and has three in his last two games. After not seeing action for most of the season, Jones is on a (small) roll. He’ll be a name to watch as a bargain next year with room for improvement.

Dynasty Recap – Week 5 – Eagles down Giants, 36-21

  • With Giants quarterback Eli Manning averaging a whopping 40 pass attempts a game, the targets are coming in droves. This week it was Rueben Randle leading the way with 13 to go with six catches and 96 yards. With Hakeem Nicks expected to leave via free agency this year, Randle is the heir apparent to Nick’s spot and should be targeted in dynasty circles.
  • Running back David Wilson had only six carries before leaving with an injury. On the season, Wilson is averaging 3.3 YPC after averaging 5.0 last year. Now could possibly be the best time to pick Wilson off as a buy-low candidate from those fed up with his lack of production.
  • Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson is back to his usual boom-or-bust self with seven catches for 132 and a touchdown. He seems to be the favorite no matter who’s at quarterback, totaling 12 targets when the next highest total was LeSean McCoy at eight.
  • Speaking of targets, rookie Zach Ertz had a career-high three targets and two catches. It remains to be seen where Ertz will fit in as incumbent Brent Celek is still entrenched as the starter and has three more years on his contract. Ertz could also be a buy-low candidate.
  • Quarterback Nick Foles will audition for teams as he takes over for the injured Mike Vick. However, it would seem that, with so many quarterback in 2014’s rookie class, Foles won’t necessarily be able to cash in a la Matt Flynn. I don’t see Foles breaking out.
