Dynasty Recap – Week 1 – Chiefs 27, Texans 20

Chiefs

  • At long last, tight end Travis Kelce was cut loose, piling up 106 yards on six catches and two touchdowns. It’s reasonable to firmly place Kelce as the second best dynasty tight end behind Gronk.
  • The man getting him the ball also had a good day with quarterback Alex Smith going 22 of 33 for 243 yards and three touchdowns. Smith will never sniff QB1 territory but could be a serviceable QB2.
  • Running back Jamaal Charles had a decent day by his standards with 57 yards on the ground but five catches for 46 yards and a touchdown in the air. He’s still a solid RB1 in dynasty rankings, especially PPR.
  • Linebacker Derrick Johnson had a big day with eight tackles, a pass defended and a sack. The middle linebacker is a safe LB1 in IDP dynasty leagues.

Texans

  • Thanks to being behind big, the receiving game was the big fantasy beneficiary with DeAndre Hopkins going off for nine catches and 98 yards plus two touchdowns. This could be the norm for Hopkins but makes have a low-end dynasty WR1.
  • The other stud for the Texans did it again with defensive end J.J. Watt racking up nine tackles and two sacks. He’s IDP’s #1 player no matter the format.

Dynasty Recap – Week 13 – Broncos shut down Chiefs, 35-28

  • Broncos rookie running back Montee Ball impressed with 117 yards on just 13 carries while incumbent Knowshon Moreno ran for just 18 yards on 15 carries. Moreno’s came in to the game nicked up but it’s encouraging that Ball was so productive against a decent defense and, maybe most importantly, didn’t turn the ball over. More performances like that and Ball will have some momentum heading in to the 2014 season.
  • Broncos receiver Eric Decker was Peyton’s man-crush this week with eight receptions for 174 yards and a ridiculous four touchdowns. Not to be outdone Demaryius Thomas had 106 yards on just three catches. You really can’t go wrong with either one.
  • Chiefs middle linebacker Derrick Johnson had nine more tackles to bring his season total to 92. Johnson is signed relatively cheap through 2015 so Johnson should continue to put up LB1 tackle numbers.

Dynasty Recap – Week 8 – Chiefs escape Browns, 23-17

  • Browns quarterback Jason Campbell had a surprisingly effective game with a 8.1 YPA, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. This may have bought him another backup opportunity in the league.
  • Campbell’s receiver Josh Gordon continues to impress with 132 yards on five catches and a touchdown. The guy is the real deal.
  • Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson had 12 tackles on the day. He’s on pace for about 100 but would still be his lowest in four years. He’s also 30 years old so his time as an LB1 in dynasty fantasy circles might be coming to an end.
  • Browns safety T.J. Ward had his third straight game of 10+ tackles and added a sack and tackle for a loss. Ward is a fine DB1 play going forward in dynasty circles.
