Daily Dynasty Update – August 18th

Jaguars rookie Blake Bortles is playing better than expected and will see more first-team reps in practice and games. It’s a gift and curse as many dynasty leaguers picked Bortles with the intent on putting him on a taxi squad. His strong play may change that.
Packers tight end Brandon Bostick suffered a lower leg injury which has cleared the way for Richard Rodgers to start. He should be owned in all dynasty leagues.
Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin is dealing with a hamstring injury but should return today. Maclin is trying to battle back from a torn ACL and needs all the practice time he can get. Be careful with him in dynasty leagues.

With the injury to Kiko Alonso, we have a new entry to the top five. The order now goes Luke Kuechly, Lavonte David, Vontaze Burfict, NaVorro Bowman, and new to the list, Bobby Wagner.
Couple injury drops include Kiko Alonso from 4 to 10 and Sean Weatherspoon from 23 to 37.
Rookie risers include C.J. Mosley from 32 to 22; Christian Kirksey from 44 to 38; and Khalil Mack from off the list to 41.

Finally, some faith in Cardinals running back Andre Ellington as he’s expected to get 20 rushes a game. We’re not as high on Ellington as others since he’s already 25 but he should be a low-end RB1 for a year or two.
One running back in line for a lot of carries that we are high on is Gio Bernard. He should get 300 carries and goal-line carries.
Be sure to draft Bears quarterback Jimmy Clausen as a viable backup in dynasty as he’s expected to win the job to back up Jay Cutler. Cutler hasn’t played 16 games since 2009.

As if Devonta Freeman’s stock couldn’t go any higher, Steven Jackson is still battling a hamstring injury. There’s no way Jackson lasts all season.
In a bit of a surprise, the Texans released backup running back Andre Brown. That leaves Jonathan Grimes and Alfred Blue to battle it out with the newly signed Ronnie Brown to be the first off the bench when (not if) Arian Foster gets hurt.
A potential sleeper in a boatload of tight ends is Packer Brandon Bostick who saw more time with the first team today.
Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan avoided a disaster by ‘only’ fracturing his knee. Trevathan is a top-20 linebacker in our dynasty rankings.

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski continues to make progress in camp. If he’s healthy, he’s the second best tight end in dynasty. But his health is one of the biggest questions in fantasy football.
In a major development, running back Jonathan Grimes appears to be the top backup to Arian Foster in Houston. It’s one of the most coveted backup spots in football as Foster can’t seem to stay healthy.
In a bit of a surprise, it looks like Saints running back Pierre Thomas might be relegated to third-string. However, he remains the top receiving option so his value goes unchanged in PPR leagues.
Titans linebacker Colin McCarthy has a shoulder injury that might keep him out awhile. McCarthy is a solid IDP option when healthy but those days are few and far between.

Top five dynasty tight ends remain the same with Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron, and Jordan Reed.
Top rookies stay the same with Eric Ebron at 6, Austin Seferien-Jenkins at 15, and Jace Amaro at 17.
Big risers include Packers rookie Richard Rodgers from 35 to 27; Texans rookie C.J. Fiedorowicz from 39 to 29.
The drops include Cardinals tight end Rob Houlser from 30 to 34. Housler is currently down the Arizona depth chart and shouldn’t be a factor.
